Awesome, AWESOME article on the genesis of Tea Party Rages and visceral defenses of the Sense of Self.
HERE is the article, From New York Times Online.
Haven't heard of Hegel lately? Well, he's baaa-aaack. lol A very interesting expansion of his philosophical musings on the nature of man under self governing systems that pretend to offer them democracy. Like ours does. I'm a progressive; the tea party seems to be regressive. How much are they willing to give up, I wonder; their library cards, Fire and Police protection? Colleges?
Anyway, this is Philosophical analysis at it's best.
some one i know (in CA) was complaining and saying government doesn't work--I want my money back.
ReplyDeleteOK and next time there is a fire (CA is a state with spring, winter and FIRE as seasons!) I won't send firefighters.
she forgets too,the courts and cops (who gave her orders of protection, and enforced them against her violent husband)
she DRINKS water (federal dam provide a good deal of CA water) she uses courts and cops, she lives in the 'country' (not an urban area) and DRIVES on state and federal roads.
what the hell has the government failed at?
Oh, i guess all that stuff is a failure.
Hi OfTroy, thank you! You said it so well.
ReplyDeleteOur taxes pay for many good things. They shouldn't be buying a huge standing army, against which President Washington gave the first warning, either. He was right.
Will I be guilty of stereotyping if I think the TeaBaggers will give up library cards and colleges first? We are surely squarely in the choice of guns or butter now, and I don't see any more butter...
ReplyDeleteEllen, there isn't much butter left, true.
ReplyDeleteSomething else that really shocks me. It's the way that millions of dollars are spent, by big business, to convince Americans that Government shouldn't be doing "whatever" for the citizens when it is the citizen's money in the first place.
The corporations are, on the other hand, heavily lobbying our government to change laws so they, the corporations, can rape the treasury or the land. Also, they are spending huge amounts to influence policy making when it comes to war, or in convincing the White House to spend OUR money (pooled to fund services to citizens)on ridiculous overkill of weapons manufacture, or on the mind boggling volume of other dollar snatching projects that they can dream up. It is Treason to start a war to make money from. It is a treasonable offense.
What is wrong with Americans? Can't they think? Don't they see what is going on?
