70's Afghan Mending Project ongoing
The top photo is of the spit mend, worked back into the fabric of the afghan. The place of the mend is three up from the bottom of the fans. You can hardly see that the yarn's just a little thicker there on the one leg of the yarn overs.
The next picture is of a hole made by another moth or maybe a weak spot that came apart after long years of use. The yarn is wonderful yarn that's really held up to wear but not to being stored away with a flitting critter or two in the vicinity.
The third picture is the hardest spot to mend. It will have to be re-knit somehow, but there is a yarn that almost matches. I'm almost tempted to use a dark brown Lamb's Pride or something, but I'm going to stick with trying to get as good a match as possible.
It's been fun to approach something like this with restoration in mind. We'll see how it goes. :)
