Mother's Gardens

Part of the little river runs behind the house, you can just see the stones on the bed. You can't see the sandbar or the rest of the gardens because they are out of the frame.

  1. This is the area around your house?

    I'm so envious.

I'm surrounded by miles and miles and rows and rows of pink stucco monsters all crammed together.

    Help me!

  2. Like you, Trish, I'm trapped in mostly White or Gray painted stucco monsters nowadays. But these were the beginnings of my mother's gardens in 1954. I should have explained better. 2.5 acres of the ground around the house were almost all planted by my mother. Right along the edge of the left side is where the willows from the riverbend grew, where the cool, shaded sandbar was, and where the wild ducks nested on the opposite bank.

All of this was a little paradise of sorts. I'll post pictures of what happened when the river was channelized. That was a very destructive thing to do, and today, it would not be done.
