Molly Ivins, Code Pink and the Raging Grannies

Dear Anonymous,

I'm sorry but I removed your comment because of the way it was presented. I don't like censorship but sometimes comment are over the line. I would have sent you a reply via email but you didn't leave one.

I supported Molly Ivins efforts, and support Peace groups because I went through the VietNam war. I lost far too many friends, close, good friends. You could even call it a decimation of my friends in that terrible war.

And, here we are again, trying to make sense of the senseless that takes our loved ones away from us, or tosses them back broken so badly they can never be fixed.

Like Dave, the Peace Guy, I don't believe in bureaucrats wars anymore. I trust the military to be used for what they pledge their lives for, defending our country. If you have done so, I respect and love you. I do NOT respect the men who were responsible for sending you.

Molly Quotes to think about, since I think about this stuff every single day of my life now:

"The United States of America is still run by its citizens. The government works for us. Rank imperialism and warmongering are not American traditions or values. We do not need to dominate the world. We want and need to work with other nations. We want to find solutions other than killing people. Not in our name, not with our money, not with our children's blood."

"We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war. Raise hell. Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we're for them and trying to get them out of there."

By God in Heaven I declare, I am for the Troops, want their lives respected by the rich and powerful who are just greedy for the resources of other countries, and I want them the Hell out of there!

  1. You go, Lella! This is the kind of loyalty our country needs: the loyalty of thoughtful, committed citizens, not the loyalty of automatons marching off at the beck and call of the powerful few.

  2. They have put fear into us, sarah-hope, because they are reaching everywhere, with malice, and prosecuting peace activists, defense Lawyers, environmentalists, and civil rights activist, et al, who have done nothing more than exercise an American's right to protest, to demonstrate (right of assembly), or call into question the conduct of those in positions of power.

We have to get over being afraid, indeed it is imperative, and the time is right now, right here. We cannot remain standing as a nation if we don't. No more abusive use of the White House, the Congress, The Supreme Court, or the Pentagon. No more war profiteering!

  3. Not that this will solve anything, but I decided recently that I want to get the First Amendment tattooed around my wrist like a bracelet. Too many folks are forgetting/betraying it just now. I want it with me permanantly. I don't have an appointment yet to get it done, but it will happen.

  4. If I were brave enough to get a tatoo, which I'm not, I would do this, too. It's a great idea. Brava Sarah-hope!

  5. Yes, I'm going to have to be brave. I have a lovely jaguar (the cat, not the car) on my lower back that I got after my father had a heart attack (I needed to do something "bad girl" after behaving myself day after day in the hospital), but this one will be much more visible.

  6. Jaguar tatoo's are really brave, even though mostly hidden. Have you thought maybe an etched brass bracelet instead of a "perma" link? :o)
