It is a drought tolerant non-native that escaped captivity and went wild. I love the thing and am trying to get it to grow along some places that will get ME into trouble with my DH. I think of it as the perfect plant for the weedy patches in our front yard. It's really quite gorgeous and not as dastardly as say, red grass. At least this the butterflies can use for a food source. Red Grass drives out native Buckwheat that is an important food for a lot of wild creatures.
