September sizzle

As the song goes, "We are having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave."

It's 104F in the shade today, after a thunderstorm with showers to begin this week. September is like this in California.   I hate September.   But the Green striped tomatoes have set fruit and more blossoms.  I hope this means we will have some bragging rights to Heirloom Tomatoes in October.  Yay!

One thing we don't have - usually - is frost at this time of year.  That waits until January and February.   HERE is a page of Heirloom Tomatoes to pour over.  I think ours are Aunt Ruby's German Green Tomatoes but I'm not entirely sure.  Jimmie grew them for her plant sales.  They could be Black Zebras.  I hope we get some tomatoes soon!  I will be watering them, and fertilizing, like a mad woman so as not to have them drop the fruit!

Roll on October!  This is not knitting weather.  But I am forging along with the second Yukon Leaves sock.  The name reminds me that cold weather is on the way, well, chilly weather, when I can snuggle up to the sweaters in the comfy chair and knit as long as I'd like.

It's looking very nice
