Alas, the Doves have failed again. This time it was to some other predator, perhaps a crow. The little family started again, in a place where they have been safe before, but it's a hungry world out there, and the birds have moved their nest away to another garden. One thrilling thing is that the Allen's Hummingbird is back, actually two of them, and they are having a lot of aerial forays over the Cape Honeysuckle bushes. I'm so happy to see the tiny Allens' ! A family of Anna's came in the meantime but I hope the Allens' win!
We had a hot Mother's Day, almost 100 degrees, and it's been backing down now for three days. It's blissfully cool right now, and only got to 83 or so today. Beautiful because if May starts out with roaring temps it doesn't bode well for summer survivals. I might have to buy a kiddy pool!
We went down to Shelter Island yesterday to escape the heat. They are fixing the place up but there is one beautiful sculpture that is there, at Humphrey's by the roundabout, and of which I finally got a good picture. Pictures tomorrow.
Enjoy Spring while it lasts. We are already gearing up for a hot, hot summer! Hope I'm wrong because this time we aren't going to be able to get out of the weather.
