I have had a lot of house cats as pets, but had only one of them declawed. This was because she scratched the face of one of my baby twins, and that frightened me.
It wasn't Kato's fault at all. It happened because she had suffered, as a kitten, an injury that made one of her claws wonky. It was the biggest mistake to have her de-clawed. She never ever recovered from it emotionally. And you can argue that cats don't actually have feelings like a human does but that is so patently not true as to be laughable. She got depressed.
I would never EVER do it again and this documentary, that you can access HERE, and also HERE, explains why it is such a terrible and painful thing to do to a feline. The whole project is focused on felines because no one has thought it necessary or wise to do this crippling operation to any other animal on the planet.
This is a little hard to watch because it is so RIGHT about why this practice has to be banned.
It's animal cruelty, in the simplest and most basic terms, that is what it is. There is no reason on earth to do this, either to captive Big Cats, or to our tiny feline pets.
You can join them on Facebook if you do Facebook. We have to end this cruel procedure. We are well behind the rest of the world in banning it.
