This is no small problem we have here.

This is horrendous.  It didn't happen in, say, Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan, it happened here, in the USA, in New York. 

This exposes some very cruel places in the underbelly of America's Prison systems.

I highly recommend this site for articles on all sort of topics by responsible, fact-based reporting and writers who cover stories you will not see anywhere else. 

 

 A quote from the Article.

"When my baby was nearly 4 months old, the DA dropped the charges against me. The judge looked at me and said, “We apologize.” As if any apology could make up for my time in the system — and the fact that I delivered my baby while shackled to a bed, with deputies watching."  

The mother in this story is now working for her degree as a Substance Abuse Councillor for imprisoned women.
