Tuesday Tails... Dr. Albert Sabin's efforts to kill polio around the world. Teeny bit ranty

This is about Ape tails and you will see how it is in a minute.

Though tomorrow is a very busy day, I want to catch up to all the blogs in the  memes today and tomorrow.  Thanks for your patience.  Reading what you all have written is such  a pleasure.

Dr. Albert Sabin created a vaccine that virtually eliminated Polio from the globe, first from humans and then eventually from all Primates.  All the apes could get this terrible disease.  And Sabin himself would have been pleased when his vaccine stopped the epidemic among the great Apes in their jungle sanctuary.

Because of the efforts of Dr. Sabine and the Coalition  which he lead (link goes to an article at the NIH) , this terrible disease was beaten back from the Western Hemisphere, and even from our cousin species, the apes.  Using this same model polio was eventually driven off the planet.

Why a scholarly article would mention Dr. Sabin's irascibility is beyond me.  With the sort of vision which he possessed, it is an insult at the very least.  He worked well enough to Kill a killer  that left misery in it's wake.  He set aside social pariah issues he had to contend with and got the bloody job DONE!

I hope that we have such an irascible visionary for the fight against Ebola, and Nile Fever, which just killed a 78 year old man in La Mesa.  It's still out there  folks so empty any standing water, even if it's in a spare tire somewhere in the lower forty, because it could be a breading ground for the mosquitoes that carry Nile Fever around.   The world will thank you.  Just remember it doesn't matter if you cussed them out the day before.  So what?  You are a part of something huge, the elimination of a Killer disease.  Thanks for reading.

Now, some Earthly beauty to sooth the savage, irascible  Beast in you:

  2. Yay! Ranting a bit is good for a person. I'm glad, also that you liked the picture. Now that one of the semi-back country near the wilderness park, is my own. No more long hikes for me I'm afraid. Darn! =0[
