Or very much like twins, these two, Mendocino Lighthouse and it's sister, Point Reyes. Sadly, this little lighthouse lost out to an electronic beacon and was saved in the knick of time by people who cared. It used to adorn the coast at Point Mendocino, but not rests crookedly but happily, like a tiny tower of Pisa, in the tarmac at Shelter Cove.
I love lighthouses - they are so beautiful and have something really romantic about them!
ReplyDeleteAh Romance.. that is the key word about these structures. You can hardly read 1800's adventure or fiction without encountering mentions of them, if the sea is involved at all. I'll post pictures of Cabrillo in a month or so, when we go visit it again. It's our home town light house.
