Tradescantia pallida
My friend gave me this plant, and it was so shriveled that it looked dead. I watered it and it swelled it's leaves out and burst forth in purple blossoms. Since then, in checking on the web, I found one growing as a huge bed of ground cover in Austin, Texas. It's always been a houseplant whenever I've seen it here in Cali. I thought my kids would like to see this, and maybe Trish. Trish, you have a ground cover plant now. Tres chic!

How pretty that looks on that stone. The colors mirror each other perfectly. You would never know it was near death the way it looks now...thanks to Nurse Zippi!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have ground cover like that around our house...it would be a refreshing change from our cruddy old Juniper bushes. Yischhh.
Hi Trish, and thanks. If it will grow in the bright sun in Texas, I'm sure it will grow for you. It's a succulant so that's why it will fold it's leaves and look perfectly awful til it's watered. Five more plants came home today after the final clean up. If one of them was another traddie, I'll see if it's still in shrivel mode and take it's piccie. They sure are tough and pretty little plants. I'll find the web page of the ground covers again and post it sometime tomorrow- if the heat hasn't shrivelled ME up into a nubbin.
