Gretchen alias the "Blob"

 

As with all unblocked lace, Gretchen is as she is. She's a scrunched up semi-tangle of stitches that resembles a very badly knit dishrag. But the shawl is getting bigger, bit by bit, and it will be only three or four months and it will be blocking time. The Avocado green of the sewing machine cabinet demands a stripping down to the limed oak. This was an attempt by a misquided 70's decorator to obliterate the hated 50's look. I can tell.

Today the realtor for the house next door said that they would be out soon to clear debris from the neighbor's yard. This was very good news. When it's all out of there, the whole neighborhood will be pleased enough to call for a block party! Well, a little wine or maybe Ginger Ale, and crisps while sitting on the front brick wall, watching the sunset.

Tuesday the new stove is delivered and I think Wednesday, in celebration, I'll bake a loaf of shepherd's bread in the dutch oven and make some soup in the slow cooker. Does soup sound good? It does to me. Fall may think it's going to stay stuck in summer, having it's way with the temperatures and snapping it's fiery fingers around the countryside, but I'm going to drag it into winter by it's little tatered still smoldering coat tail.
