  1. I absolutely love when people do projects inspired by nature! You Tidepool idea is great! LOVE the postcards (The Scream-my fav) I think I've missed something ...where did these get started from? Oh, I just noticed your Comfort Doll on the sidebar- love those!

  4. why wait? why not a hat, or mittens, or even a scarf (make a edging of fair isle, (double layers, and then the body of the scarf in single layers..

    work in fine yarn..

or do a long scarf, (not to wide, but scarf long, and add a lacy hem.. a shawl with a fair isle border!)
the fair isle would drape around your neck, and front, the rest of shawl would be light weight and lacy.

less fair isle to do, and a more usefull garment!

  5. PJ, Thanks for visiting my blog and your nice comments about the tidepool colors. The post card group is from a sewing forum. I've been in it just about a year now. It's loads of fun and keeps me thinking all the time. It's lovely! The dolls are going to be wonderful to make. I sorted all the men's ties and will make the base from them. Lord knows, I've got the beads for this!

Kreativemix, Thanks! I might be starting, as OfTroy suggested, with a smaller project, like a scarf, to try out the whole idea. The colors are probably going to have to be hand dyed by moi...unless a specialty yarn company has some that match.

Meribeth, Hi there, and thanks for the suggestion of a yarn company. I'll google and oogle. :-) And yes, the delicate overlayers and the way one color comes through the translucent seaweed was so attractive to the eye. The tidepools are really popular and surprisingly, the small children have such respect for the creatures there. It's good to see. Well, there are some who don't know better than to pull on a crab that is gripping the seagrass for all it's worth. hehe. My twins would be good teachers I think.

OfTroy, yes! I love the idea of smaller yarns. And thanks for your suggestions and comments. Forgetting fair isle for the moment, this project could be of a hat and scarf in fine yarns, something hand dyed maybe with yarn from Knitpicks that you dye yourself. I've been wanting to try microwave dyeing and then over dye for awhile.

    The hunt begins :-)

  6. Beautiful inspiration! Ed and I enjoy spending copious amounts of time peering into tidal pools and watching the stirrings of life. We have noticed that often young children are the most reverent when observing tidal pools, it's the parents who hurry them along or encourage them to poke, prod, and peel.

You have a flurry of knitting going on! Have fun finding the right color blends and combinations when dyeing.

  7. We mere mortals could not have come up with a better colour scheme! Looking forward to seeing that sweater.

  8. I just realized I have been staring at your tide pool photos for 5 minutes! So many design possibilities there....so little time to execute even a few. Sigh.

Keep taking/posting those pretty pics...I love them all.;-)

  9. Wanda, hi there and thanks for your comment. Tidepools are really amazing little worlds, and young children, who are most willing of all humans to take their time over something, really do adore them. It's truly a place to spend hours looking deeply in, especially the protected ones, where there is a lot more nudibranchs . Before I'd seen one( a nudibranch) in "person" I thought they were very big. They are so tiny!

This Fair Isle sweater will be a long term project, so first, a scarf as per OfTroy's suggestion. The colors at Virtual Yarns just knocked my socks off! I think Meribeth saved me a lot of time, though it would still be lovely to experiment in dyeing some yarn. :o)

Cynthia, so true that Mother Nature is the best colorist! We need to spend more time appreciating it, in our too busy lives we miss a lot. The sweater will be at least a year in the beginning, as the Drops Aran must be finished first. DH is languishing though he does ask for socks all the time. I love making them, small and quick projects.

Trish, here's a site for nudibranchs that you may like to gaze through.

And there's a site for them in FUN STUFF, in the lists. I love them best of all in the pools. I'll keep putting up pictures, some of which my DD took, and the next ones are of bromeliads. She took them in the Botanical Gardens, in Balboa Park. The Society had a demonstration garden set up there.

Oh this Tide Pool project is going to be a lot of fun, but has to wait til that Aran is at least 90% done. I'll start collecting yarns now though. ;-) That's what we do, eh?
