A is for Airplane
I love them, flat out adore Airplanes. And the pilots. Click here for why you should Hug those pilots! And there's even an airplane gas station, from the "Old Gas Stations" picture collection.
Oh, yes! That video makes me want to find a pilot and give him a hug. I took flying lessons when I was around 18..didn't know how to drive either! What they were doing is called "crabbing," a technique where you fly at an angle in the direction you want to go in. It is often used to land in a crosswind, and to loose altitude quickly without loosing the natural loft of the plane. All of that is much more than you wanted to know!! LOL! I loved crabbing, because it gives the feeling you get when sledding down a hill. Had to do it a lot where I took lessons...shudder. Thanks for the video!
You're welcome! I guess you want those big wheels to touch down in the exact right order, too. And I'm always happy to hear about any flying technique, since someday it might get used when I'm on a plane!
Once we were having dinner at a restaurant that was near a small airfield here. I was looking at a little plane, making a landing. Suddedly is side slipped toward the ground (that got me out of my seat) and then it leveled off and finished the landing. DH, who had been up with a pilot who taught him a few exciting things about short runways, laughed and told me that was how they made sure they didn't over shoot. Of course, you can't do that with a jumbo jet. heehee well, you probably can but the passengers would hug the ground then, and not the pilot.
