Jill Bolte Taylor talks

My Daughter found this on the web and sent it to me. It is a video of a talk that was given by the brain researcher, Jill Bolte Taylor.

Dr Bolte Taylor studied her own stroke as it was progressing. By being conscious and awake she was able to gain insights into how the brain operates, in crisis. She feels that she was given the opportunity to examine the differences between how the right and left hemispheres of the brain process sensory information. This lead her to see how the two work together, and why changing our focus on the right brain activities, to understand the world, could create new ways to help us to steer ourselves back to a reality that is wiser and balanced for our soul, though she doesn't call it soul. She experienced an intuitive insight into what the right brain really does for a human being, and daily.

Please take some time to watch; it might help a lot to understand what goes on in the mind during the last several minutes or days when a friend is clinging to life. These experiences are very touching, and Dr. Bolte Taylor communicates them with intelligence and compassion for all humans. Her experiences have given her an clear eyed insight into how we all communicate ideas, one of which is a very powerful love and connectedness with all energy bodies. We are chemical/electrical beings. Everyone has this ability to develop right inside themselves, whether it's developed or nacient. Everyone. But listen to Dr. Bolte Taylor tell her story.

May you know this Peace.

  1. I'm reading the transcript, because I am an impatient person, with slow DSL. I found this quote, which I'm sure you love.
"We are energy beings connected to one another through the consciousness of our right hemispheres as one human family. And right here, right now, all we are brothers and sisters on this planet, here to make the world a better place. And in this moment we are perfect. We are whole. And we are beautiful."
I'll go finish reading it now.
    Thanks!

  3. Indeed, sallyjo, that quote from the transcript fits beautifully into the question of why some people have lived so long getting along with neighbors and most have not. It's a decision to be responsive to challenges with co-operative ways or combative ones. The co-operatives probably only survived because they were taken as slaves from time to time. Sad isn't it? It's a miracle that the human race didn't end up completely, and lopsidedly, left brained.

  4. Fascinating talk, thanks for pointing it out. Of course now I find myself browsing around the site checking out talks about ants, etc!

  5. Hello Ellen, thanks for your watching the video from Dr. Taylor's talk.

And ants, yes well, we have a distant cousin of the ants, uninvited squatters who eat wood and wall papers. They are ugly and destructive. Actually they are sort of cute and destructive. As important for the ecosystem as they are, they have to leave, feet first or otherwise.

  6. Thank you for that. Jill Bolte Taylor's My Stroke of Insight is one of the most incredible stories I've heard in a long time. Her TEDTalk video blew my mind wide open to new possibilities. On the one hand, there's what she went through and how she emerged from it. On the other hand, there's what she can teach all of us.
I saw the 4 part Oprah interview on Oprah dot com Soul Series and I did learn a lot from that, but I'd like to find our more of how to do what Dr. Taylor did, without having a stroke of course!
Thin how many of us are living too much in the head, and not the heart. And of course, you can't get more left brain than a Harvard Brain Scientist. Isn't it ironic that she should be the one to have the stroke and transform from the quintessential left brainer into this ""seen the light"" disciple of finding inner peace?
I hope this movement keeps going. Maybe there will be My Stroke of Insight classes where we can practice what Jill Bolte Taylor is preaching.

  7. One thing that we, as humans on the paths we are on, tend to block out, just so we can be a success in the world we created, is the possibility that there really is an indwelling force that IS Perfect Peace. It is inside of each of us, waiting for expression, waiting to reveal itself.

Sometimes, in small flashes we see or rather feel it take possession of our minds and guide us. Some call it insight, but I, personally think it is much more. It's more than intuition, or any six sense, and more than joy. It is powerful!

It grips you and you feel it with an intensity like no other you've experienced. It's Perfect Peace. You know it when it happens because it is like nothing else you ever feel in daily life. You stop fearing death. It's that intense. You know there's a reason for your life like you never did know before.

I think this is what Jill Bolte Taylor experienced, and she will be an opening door for people willing to accept,as genuine, her experience and her conclusions. How wonderful.

  8. MY STROKE OF INSIGHT was ranked #5 in all books sold on Amazon today and #1 in Memoirs above even Barbara Walters' memoir. Babs had been promoting her book for months in advance and Dr. Taylor's book was self-published.

Then Oprah recommended it. There's the Power of Now, and then there's the Power of Oprah!!

"My Stroke of Insight" is out in Hardcover now for less than the old paperback edition. Amazon has it for 40% off.

  9. Thank you for letting me know this because I intend to buy "My Stroke of Insight", along with two new political science books which are shortly to be released. I like buying in sets over 30 for the free shipping.

I appreciate the info very much. Thanks again.
