I'm trying my luck for Team Resolutions 2008 in WIPS Wrestling competition (an orange short fingered glove that's been languishing in the dark interior of a knitting bag), and "Sock Put" competition which is the gutsy knitting of a mate to Jane's Hedgerow sock. The first sock can now cease to pine for the red Trekking boot sock, which it mistook for it's mate at picture taking time. As if....
Back to our knitting. The Olympics are very close!

ReplyDeleteRe: the Olympics, do you have any thoughts on the whole to boycott or not to boycott question? I love, love, love watching them, but am torn up inside about the censorship and silencing of dissidents by the Chinese government. Do I watch the games but not the ceremonies, so I'm skipping the bits that lend the most glory to China? Do I have to be principled and skip the whole thing? Do I watch the game but boycott businesses that donate to the IOC, which has failed to hold China to its promises of openness. I would love to hear your thoughts.

I put them Sarah-Hope. I always feel sorry for those caught in the middle of things like this, and remember them, the athletes, the soldiers, BUT, I know that the cost to the people who have been jailed or dispossessed in China is higher than any athlete's cost. I think the IOC failed the athletes, not the people who are calling for a boycott, and this opinion is based on the broken promises they, the IOC, let slip by.
