Persephone

I like this myth that explains the changing of the seasons. Actually if I were Persephone, I'd just go stay in the garden and to hell with Hades, that trickster. I'd take him to court, and I would win! Buhahahahaha!

I have been working in the sewing room to try to get some post cards made for Spring, or maybe Summer. My own garden is a sad tangle right now, but it's better than it was two months ago, rank with weeds! The wild birds loved it though! Scrub Jays and Doves both raised a family in it. That's a fairly high approval rating for an urban garden, me thinks.

  1. You would love the song by Anne Lister (modern folk songwriter not the 18th century lesbian) "Demeter's daughter".
Told from through the eyes of Persephone...
"And there he stood, with his face like coal, his eyes as dark as a night in hell.
And there he stood with his eyes of fire, saying "Fair lady I wish you well...."
They say he forced me... but that's not true. Of my free will I followed him down.
Down to his dark place beneath the hill, to his palace below the ground.
And there he loved me,and I loved him, though the world there was icy dark. We never noticed the light was dim with the bright flame inside our hearts."
On youtube is a video of someone performing a version of her song "Icarus". Another wonderful retelling of myth...

  2. Thanks Kathleen, I'll run over yonder and catch that YouTube. :o)

My daughter plays old timey music and most folk style music, Irish etc, on Banjo and fiddle. I'll pass this on to her also.

*kicks up her heels and goes a leppin an hoppin around the meadows* Wheeee!
