Scientific American Article on the Origins of House Cats

Pogonip said she hadn't seen this article, so HERE it is for all who are interested. Thank you L, for the link.

House cats, when they are feral or maybe farm cats, will form prides and raise kittens in common. This was one of the things I remember from an old Nature or Nova show on PBS. Maybe that's been disproved but it was a documented behavior.

  1. Thank you. I had not read it. I thought the best quote from the whole article is:
And as to utility to humans, let us just say cats do not take instruction well.

That's it, in a nutshell, isn't it? ROFL!!!

  2. I also like that the article keeps making the implication that cats chose us. This is a great insight. lol

  3. I read the article and found it thought provoking.

Maybe sometimes, we like critters merely because they amuse us.

  4. They do choose us, and if we don't measure up, they move on. But the very best cats seem to be the ones who have chosen us, the ones who show up at the door with widdle suitcase in hand, announcing, "I'm here." Others, brought home from somewhere, seem to take us on approval, always reserving the right to refuse.
