We don't get a lot of things like snowdrifts that nearly cover the barn, or the chance to feed the wintering birds at suet feeders. It's usually much too warm for suet not to melt down the tree trunk and spatter to the ground, but we do have Liquid Amber Trees that provide beautiful color, and the Elms will turn all lovely shades for the winter, usually in December.
These leaves fell at the Rec Center during a bad wind storm last week. The center is where my ceramic club meets. I collected them from the ground along with some of the seed pods of the Liquid Amber Tree. These lovely round balls of seeds feed many many birds, some of which are the Gold Finch, Lesser Gold Finch, Lawrence's Gold Finch and the occasional flock of Cedar Wax Wings.
These same pods make cute small wreaths when they are connected in a ring and spray painted silver or gold. I'll make one tomorrow so you can see them. I brought home , as well, some green ones that were blown from the trees. If you are a seeker after the mystery of Fractals you will be able to see that hidden hand in the shaping of Liquid Amber leaves as well as the pods. Lovely Art by Natural Design.
Sweet Dreams you all! It's raining a lot, just bucketing down, and that's such a lovely sound to fall asleep to. Today DH got the Christmas tree up, and I fluffed out the branches. It's lovely. Sis and her hubby came over to meet Wolfie, and we ate a whole bunch of cookies, drank a lot of tea, and had a lovely visit. Have you seen the movie "UP"? It's a lovely film.
