T.R. Reid's Book, The Healing of America

The Healing of America is a book that every American should read and do a lot of thinking about.  Heavily annotated to back up the facts presented, it is a clear voice for why what is happening in America is so bad for us.

Something that is not even discussed in most of the media is the appalling infant mortality rate in the United States.   Our ranking among nations in this sad record is disgraceful.

Another important fact, that got little attention in the debate, is that the Insurance Giants in this For profit "Industry" enjoy 20% profits at least, while no one would give to a charity that had that sort of Administrative overhead.  The system that is shouted down as Socialism, Medicare, has only a 3% Administrative cost.

The book is filled with illustrations of why a for profit system of Healthcare costs so much, yet fails us and falls well below the systems in other industrialized countries in Europe and Asia in the delivery of good care.

I really indict the White House as well Congress for being such weak kneed gladiators for this cause, and the Republicans who oppose it as "public servants" with a hidden agenda.
