First a Death Lily.  Actually it's a Stargazer Lily - more fitting, really.

I love these things. What's in a name? And, welcome to my roller coaster ride.

35 cents please.

  1. My stargazers are about to bloom any day. When I tell folks they smell like something died they look at me like I'm cracked! Funny - stargazers from the flower shop don't have that obnoxious smell.
Love the tips on propagating the African Violets. I have a couple of OLDIES but lovelies that need to be cleaned up. One was my Mom's, the other my late husbands, both of these beloved folks were great violet people.

  2. Hi Wilno, indeed, obnoxious smells. hehe

I'm sure that these were also called Death Lilies, or at least ones very like them. Maybe the Stargazers and the Death Lilies are closely related. One of them has the smell that kills - it gives me a splitting headache if I'm foolish enough to put my nose down into one and smell the fragrance - and the other with hardly any fragrance at all. The Death lilies do smell fairly nice but it has a bad side effect. lol

When I looked up "Death Lily", all the search yeilded was Callas. Go figure.

I'm glad you enjoyed the violet surgery, etc. Things aren't looking good for the leaf but the other two bits and pieces look like they will make it. Isn't it wonderful to have heirloom plants from our Mothers and other belovéd ones? I'm very happy to have a few.
