February and March, the little weeds that grow there every year fed adult Chipping Sparrows and English House Sparrows, and one little tortoise, who was taking a break from "captivity".

This is March, and a little Tortoise is enjoying a break from "Captivity".
Taken yesterday, the photo below is the same spot, and some of the same birds have come to search for seeds from winter rye grass and another weed I've never identified but which my Botanist DD told me was edible by humans, too. This is the reason we leave our garden in as much of a wild state as is possible, because the birds need this food.
