Or, Why I think World Peace is not an option, ever. Or at least it is apparently never going to be one.
The first introduction to the beautiful and almost inscrutable Mahabharata, or in particular, the Bhagavad Gita, came when PBS aired The Mahabharata several years ago. One very striking thing in it all was the conversation between Arjuna and Krishna where Krishna informs Arjuna of his duty to fight people who were cousins to him. The story is both beautiful and sad.
Most of the priceless cultural knowledge and rich mysticism of the Vedas was painstakingly reconstructed after hundreds of ancient books were destroyed by the British Raj, and we are lucky that such a huge amount was remembered and retold from the memories of the Holy men.
I wish we all could realize just whom we are setting out to kill when we do these terrible things for resources and land. In this tiny world, this "ball of rotting rock", this device should have been abandoned as futility, and should be over by now. It really could have been.
I guess this is a Lament more than anything. I feel for the Arjunas of this world.
