Yosemite's Falls are Roaring!

However, it Pays to Obey the rangers' cautions... HERE is why...

Hetch Hetchy is a bittersweet topic in and of itself, if you know the History clear back into the dusty past of white settlement and thence forward to now.  Heart breaking really.  It certainly broke Ansle Adams's and John Muir's hearts when the City of San Francisco set their sights on it as a reservoir.

It's still got a certain amount of beauty left, and I hope you get to see it.

The Menominee River...

Meanwhile, back at the Ranch, After the Roman Bread and Circuses in Washington...and under the radar...

Back Forty Mine as proposed.

Just when are we going to learn to stop this?  Will it be when we are all choking to death because of bad air, bad water, or contaminated food?

Oh, yes, if not the Earth, is NOTHING sacred to the white man?

The destruction of Joshua tree...Edited to add.....

..A pdf map of the area, and information on the proposed urbanization of the southern border of Joshua Tree added at the bottom...

https://www.npca.org/articles/1995-paving-paradise-massive-development-proposal-advances-at-the-doorstep-to

The Destruction on Joshua Tree has been a last straw for me.  I've camped there for over 50 years, first as a child, then with my own family, and again, recently, in retirement.

These brigands also cut a new road with their 4x4s.  I'm sure you saw all the photos.

I lay it all at the feet of Riverside County, who can't seem to say NO to a development that is cheek by jowl to the southern edge of the monument.

This development features 800 homes, plus commercial properties to support it, and is, basically, a new town.

This is almost half way to Twenty Nine Palms, and it's surrounded, mostly, by wilderness, so, in order to sell it, the developers had to provide a LOT of the support and infrastructure for a new town out there.

Here is the latest on the fight to keep Urban Sprawl from Impacting the Park....

Food Foraging Friday? Not pretty cakes and pies. A Rant

20,000 children die everyday from starvation.  Unicef estimates, this is from 2010, that number to be 25,000, and they should know.

You may have seen this on Pinterest:

Whatever that number is, It's HUGE!

And being vegan doesn't really help this.  But a keen and caring awareness does.
Don't let that "Circus McGurcus" in Washington distract you from this reality.   We need to protect our children.

This Earth is a tiny speck of blue, way out on the edge of a Galaxy. and at the edge of the Universe.  We should be able to feed the people who are here.  We have the resources, we just lack the will!

Live in the US?  We have hungry ones here, too.  Little kids who go to bed hungry every night.  When I was a teacher's aide, I was given the assignment of taking some of these kids, one on one, to just talk about life with them, and so I know they didn't get to eat either breakfast or sometimes dinner.

It's gotten worse and worse for them as their parents cannot find work to sustain their families.  This was caused by Financial Giants who haven't given a damn since before the banks collapsed in 2008.
Ladies, we have a job to do.

We really need to do this for the kids, ours, and "theirs".  Theirs includes some pretty important present and future leaders who want to make a world community that WORKS.  We can't afford to be greedy about this, or clueless.  There is no escape.  There is no Space vehicle.  We can't take "It", what ever that is, with us no matter what we try.

Tuesday Tails of Trumpty Dumpty....UPDATED with a Link....

Yes, he has one....

and I quote a quotable from the news gatherer's of America....

Trumpty Dumpty sat on a wall.....

John Brennan, a former C.I.A. director:
“When the full extent of your venality, moral turpitude, and political corruption becomes known, you will take your rightful place as a disgraced demagogue in the dustbin of history.”
Mr. Sulu, make it so.....

UPDATE to include this LINK to an article in the New York Times about the firm involved in the  Facebook Scandal.

And, to conclude Rant week we have ......Opioid wars!

My BBF is in a lot of pain because of injuries she's incurred from falling because of her disabilities.   However, she can't get through to her doctors that she actually does need more pain pills to get through 24 hours.  I see her and know her very well, and this woman has never even smoked marijuana, or cigarettes, but they are afraid she'll become addicted to pain pills?  She's not going to get better, anytime soon if ever, and SO WHAT if she gets addicted to something that makes her life bearable?  She needs enough medication to have a little bit of a quality to her life!  Kaiser,  YOU SUCK!   It doesn't shock me that we have an "Epidemic".

And this clip from the article linked below is only tangentially applicable to my BFF's problems with bone headed HMOs but it is somewhat related to it.

From the Washington Post Article HERE:  Italics are mine.

"Policymakers often speak as if the epidemic* will be over as soon as we tackle both legal and illegal opioids. Better control of opioids is essential, but, even without opioid deaths, there would still be as many or more deaths from suicide and liver diseases. Opioids are like guns handed out in a suicide ward; they have certainly made the total epidemic much worse, but they are not the cause of the underlying depression. We suspect that deaths of despair among those without a university degree are primarily the result of a 40-year stagnation of median real wages and a long-term decline in the number of well-paying jobs for those without a bachelor’s degree. Falling labor force participation, sluggish wage growth, and associated dysfunctional marriage and child-rearing patterns have undermined the meaning of working people’s lives as well."
Real wages are stagnated at the level of those in 1972.   I know this to be true because I lived through the whole span of the war on the American Worker, and watched it happening.  Food and shelter became increasingly expensive in the ensuing years.  Except, of course, for fast food.  Clothing, due to the manufacturing job flight to other countries, became less.  But it wasn't enough to make up for the raise in other necessary expenditures.

*the epidemic spoken of here is the so called Opiate epidemic that is all over the Media.

You can fool a lot of people, a lot of the time, but you can't fool Moms....

Tuesday Tails: "It will Never Be Humane".... And story about mother Grizzly

Let's end this slaughter once and for all.

This is the WEBPAGE to sign the petition, and yes, they do ask you to contribute to the cause.  If you can that's great.  But please sign to end this inhumanity for all time.

Story here
While looking for a video of something sweet for animal rescue, I came a cross a few of bear attacks.  so I wondered if the people who perpetuate this slaughter were ever sickened by doing it.  Why don't they go after a grizzly bear's cubs for their fur?  That would be much more sporting, doncha think? Mama Grizzly is more than a match for men with hooked sticks.

Lest we forget....

President John F. Kennedy was shot and killed in Dallas, on this day, 52 years ago.  There is one thing he would have done that would have changed just where we sit, in the cross-hairs, today.  I think that's pretty self evident.

If he'd lived, so much would be different today.  So very much rode on those capable shoulders.

I'm a Wannabe....

I could rage against the NRA today, but I won't.  What a sad mess.

Can I do this Raging Granny thing from the comfy chair that keeps my back from collapsing?

There is no group, that I can find, in my city.  Of course there isn't.  It might spoil the little red dot on the map.  I'm seeking something I can do to support their work.  Wish me luck.

Thankful Thursday... Remembering a time before Fast Fashion, and it's costs on the human beings making it.

First I'd like to say this:

I'm thankful that my daughters have not had to work for less than $3 a day at a sweatshop in order to put food on their tables.  My sister did work for an American company as a presser when she was a teen, and it was hard work, by the piece, but at least it was fair.  And, the working conditions were up to labor standards, and law.

I remember when the business was moved to Mexico.  I remember when a jobber told the owner of a garment factory there in Mexico, that if he, the owner, couldn't meet the now reduced piece price, that the work was going to China.  And that's exactly what happened.  I remember all these things because I follow trends.

I remember when the not very well disseminated plan in Iraq was to seize the oil fields and then use the revenues to pay ourselves for reparations after we'd accomplished regime change.  This seems to be the way Globalization of jobs works, too.   Make someone else pay for cheap oil.  Someone else pays for all these cheap clothes.

Corporations named in the Documentary (link to follow) have made billions even after a thousand seamstresses died in Bangladesh when the multi storied building they were working in crashed to the ground.

The poor girls and young men who work in Fast Fashion in the "Third World" are not protected, and you will be shocked to learn that even poor, tiny Cambodia has suffered, yet again, from some huge, seemingly unstoppable foreign force that has ruined their economy except for the privileged few.  People have been killed by government forces breaking up their rallies.  I'm so disgusted with fashion now.  I will never buy any clothing from anyone who  is NOT affiliated with groups who are doing Fair Traded Fashion Designs.

Since I am a seamstress and have done alterations, Fashion Design and the clothing industry are something that always gets my attention.  Since high school, having made much of my clothing for myself both because I enjoy sewing, and to save money, I had continued sewing for my DH, and for our daughters, while they were young.

So, you can imagine, this was a Documentary that I wanted to see.  It was shocking to say the least.

 It's available on Netflix.

Want a hard look at the so called Fast Fashion movement?  Have  a look HERE.

Elle magazine calls the whole situation, and I quote: "Gut Wrenching and Alarming"

The message is, and I'm taking it, is to know what you are buying, both clothing and leather goods, and care about the welfare and hopes of the ones who are creating it for you.

Teachers are not robotic test emitting devices and children can't learn this way...

 No Music Monday this week...

Let's discuss American  Kindergarten structures.

It's really not all the School Board's fault....Guess who was pushing the hardest for these changes when I was an Aide?  Yuppie Parents.  Push Push Push...they made me fume.

Washington Post Article about a teacher's choice

Such a mess. This is not, after all, the school system of Japan.  This is ours!
We need not have mothers, with babies in prams, scheming and clawing for placements in pre-kindergarten classes before the baby is even weaned.
And yet this screwed up system throws away fine minds at an alarming rate when our youth reach the Collegiate level.  This is not right, and never will be!  We need to get this thing fixed!  Can it really be so hard to find a humane way to educate our kids?

Thankful Thursday- Brigands and Angels

Today, with the sudden realization that - for physical, emotional and spiritual reasons - I can no longer read or watch things that PISS ME OFF, I'm free to be an undercover agent of change while outwardly appearing to be a Pollyanna. For all this I'm thankful.

One of the bloggers who writes Sunday Stealing posts, said that if She were Emperor of the world, one rule would be, "Everybody eats!"  What a wonderful world that would be!  Since arms traders are responsible for a lot of crop disruption... just check the records, they need to go.

And, since the estimate for yearly death toll from starvation Worldwide is 30,000,000 humans - mostly little kids, this would be a very good rule (see first paragraph) indeed.  Also, I feel this horrid toll is reason enough to say grace daily.  It is a privilege to to eat everyday.

I'm thankful that my kids get to eat everyday, and that they have a roof over their heads.  It's a very big deal.

I can't overtly engage the enemy but I can covertly oppose them.  Oxfam Hurrah!  Doctor's without Borders!  Women for Women!

I plan to be UP all day!
Come Fly with me?

RANT: Appalling.... this is America? Kalief Brouder

This Justice system has to do something about their problems.   It is not a crime to be Black in this country but some people who have the power to do such egregious miscarriages of freedoms and due process just don't get the message.

Kalief says, "I will never get those years back"

I guess we can be thankful, this Thursday, if this doesn't happen to one of our own kids, or friends, or classmates.

What is that matter with us?    This is America for God's Sake!  People come here in droves to escape things like this being done under the cover of the law.

Morbid Monday..... Updated to include another info byte, and Buffalo Springfield: "What's that Sound?"

"What Fools These Mortals Be!" William Shakespeare

Oddly, this was the song I picked out a week ago after watching a movie that had it in it.

Since today is the putative start of World War III, I thought I'd leave for Canada tomorrow.

Have a gander, if you dare.  I think the author has impeccable creds..

War with Syria and what it will actually accomplish.

HERE is a list of the Board of Directors

I'll  put up Al Jezeera up if it will avert an unnecessary war.  HERE is what the Russians coming has accomplished.

Thankful Thursday: And some ranting... well, a LOT of ranting.

First of all, yes,  I am a little pissed off.    I hope that the "brilliant people" in Washington don't go back down that blackened Yellow Brick Road to Perdition that we are still trying to walk away from, in a half assed way, in two countries.  But, I digress....

I'm thankful that there are still people out there in America who are working hard to expose fraudulent use of any government program - our money after all, yours and mine.  Talk about abuse of chemical toxins!  But, I digress...  forgive me, it's hotter than Hades in paradise.

Thank you  Evelyn Pringle .

Thank you Democracy Now for your Piece, HERE

At LawyersandSettlements.com I found THIS.

This is Part One of the article that explains what has been going on in Medicaid Fraud directed at children, some as young as one year.  This article is from 2009.  I'll bet you never heard of it?

Keep your Eyes on The Prize.  The tendency is to bird dog Americans off onto the threat of yet another WAR involving weapons of mass destruction.  A war that may, or may not, be a product of some nefarious third county's annoyingly ever present agency.

What was that saying that Prez. Bush Jr, mangled?  "Fool me once shame of me, fool me twice shame on.. er..."  I think we really need to keep ripping down curtains, and getting looks at the "Wizard" behind them.

And, thank you to all the others who are working hard to expose how government programs are being milked by unscrupulous entities who are laughing all the way to their hedge funds, and other public money milking addresses.   How on Earth can "Karma" handle all of this?  It's insane.

"There's always free cheese in a Mousetrap".... Video of a Retired Marine Colonel talking about Homeland Security.

Yep!  But, I want to say that this is not political, unless human rights and American Freedoms are political.

Who's getting rich supplying all this??  Follow the Money, darlings.  AND, It's OUR MONEY!!!

No comic today, or August Happiness Challenge but at least we see that the Marines are wide awake!  Yay!
