Food Foraging Friday? Not pretty cakes and pies. A Rant

20,000 children die everyday from starvation.  Unicef estimates, this is from 2010, that number to be 25,000, and they should know.

Whatever that number is, It's HUGE!

And being vegan doesn't really help this.  But a keen and caring awareness does. 
Don't let that "Circus McGurcus" in Washington distract you from this reality.   We need to protect our children. 

This Earth is a tiny speck of blue, way out on the edge of a Galaxy. and at the edge of the Universe.  We should be able to feed the people who are here.  We have the resources, we just lack the will!

Live in the US?  We have hungry ones here, too.  Little kids who go to bed hungry every night.  When I was a teacher's aide, I was given the assignment of taking some of these kids, one on one, to just talk about life with them, and so I know they didn't get to eat either breakfast or sometimes dinner. 

It's gotten worse and worse for them as their parents cannot find work to sustain their families.  This was caused by Financial Giants who haven't given a damn since before the banks collapsed in 2008. 
Ladies, we have a job to do. 

We really need to do this for the kids, ours, and "theirs".  Theirs includes some pretty important present and future leaders who want to make a world community that WORKS.  We can't afford to be greedy about this, or clueless.  There is no escape.  There is no Space vehicle.  We can't take "It", what ever that is, with us no matter what we try.

I'm doing all the things that can be done.  Also, had a very interesting dream last night.  It was almost like I was awakened, and someone was talking to me (In the dream, I woke fully but the dream went on).
A man, a thin one with a bald head was talking to me.  He was a sort of Nordic type.

Anyway, he was telling me that I was free of many things from the past and other "worries".  Things that I worry about and ache over.  He was setting me free from these thoughts.

One thing I'm certain of is that he didn't represent Jesus.  I don't want anyone to have the wrong impression.  But this person had some standing (ranking) in a mixed group who all wore robes.  He was the only person that I saw though I did hear someone else talking as well.  Somehow, this has made me feel better.  And, when I woke all the way up, I felt less sad; though not supremely happy, just less sad.

We have sold the really nice Webco table and chairs.  But, now, I'm thinking of keeping the little wooden set.  They were made in Indiana I think.  Anyway, there is something about wood, and something about an item this unique, that makes me say, "Keep This".  I've regretted getting rid of wooden things before, and don't want to rue the day I sold this set.  The two of them took up so much space, even when folded!

The  metal set was bought for a time that I was in a Bunco group, and we needed more seating. If you've never played Bunco, you are missing out!  My wooden set is older, and I bought it from my sister when she moved here years ago.  But, as you can see, those little wooden sets are sort of hard to let go of.  I have no connection to that company, but they certainly have the Bunco rules down pat!

I've torn through my magazine clipping collection and freed up space - Lots of Space.  In a few days, when the fever from the excitement of seeing old project papers wears off again, I will go back with a vengeance and rip through it all again.  I did find a pattern for a knitted doll.  My knitting fingers are itching to do small things, and once the Manly Beastly is knit, assembled, blocked, and ON THE MAN,  I will do little things again.

Meanwhile, I will be watching some hoarding shows to get the motivation to crank this up a notch.  I really mean to be a grown up about it all.  And, it's not all a grind.  I did find some old things that are treasures.

Tuesday Tails: Big Money VS the Cunning and Deadly Wolves, AS IF!... Knitting, Wolfie, and Tort report and a Skywatcher Post

The big money boys are rolling out their Big Moolah against the few remaining wolves, AGAIN.    Maybe it's because now that it's illegal, hunters still have a great market for all lupin pelts but hate to be classed as criminals?  Could that be it?

Anyway, the Earth absolutely needs the wolves to keep the Elk herds healthy and the Mule deer in check, something that hunters aren't really saying is THEIR first priority for killing either of those two ungulates.

Here's the Gauntlet- I'm throwing it down!  If you don't eat it or it's not eating humans, don't kill it just for the fun.

My Grandfather would hate what's going on now, and he was a hunter.  He never hunted from an airplane.  He did it the old fashioned way and for the old fashioned reason, to get meat to eat during the winter, and rabbits for the pot during the rest of the year.  He fished to eat, like most fishermen, but they are a different sort of folk.

Bring it, Mz. Sarah!  This is my rant but I'll let you have a run at it, too.

Knitting report:
I got past the first row of patterns on the sleeves, but had to rip back because I just can't knit them both together on one circ without everything going all caddywompus, pear-shaped, or escew.  I'll stick to straights for these little sleeves.  A picture within the week of the progress.

Tort Report:  With temps returning to below 95°F again, the babies have been able to stay outside.  It was 91 two days ago but it's climbing back up so they came in again yesterday and probably today if the forcast is right.
These two little buddies are getting almost big enough to hibernate but it will take a couple more years of keeping them up all year to make certain they can survive it.  I hope the tomato plants that hang down don't kill the adults but I'm not as happy go lucky as Mr. Z about it.  Churchy's almost as old as I am!  I don't want him to die!

Wolfie report:  The little guy is slowing down.  He sleeps more.

Annnd, he would enjoy going to the beach and probably will get to do that now that sanity has returned within the municipal code, and the crowds are gone.

Dogs can now be on the beach if they are on a leash, in some places.  He LOVES the beach and plays like a puppy when he gets to go there.  One of the other rules is that you must pick up after your dog. We always pick up after him.  I have a purse full of tiny plastic bags. We're good.

I've been watching shows with more than a few Hunters from both sides of that border getting Big Howdies from bears, some Black Bears, some Grizzles.  They are people who seemed to be surprised that bears would actually attack if you were out looking for deer and you found one of theirs.  If you go hiking someday in the woods and come across a carcass, please get away from it as quickly as you can manage without really running.

Most of the drama/trauma has been to the humans in the family the last week.  I got a  frantic call from my sister, and it was Jeep to the rescue once again.  Her poor DH has one good eye, and it apparently decided to throw a curveball at him at work.  Mr. Z has been going back and forth between his mother's bedside and taxi service to the clinics and back for DBL.  I've been forced to sit on my arse and do nothing but read or watch Netflix - I know it's a piece of cake- because DH worries that I will do something characteristically stupid - in otherwords, act like the 45 year old I once was and try to lift a recliner up with one hand while vacuuming underneath it.  Yes, I can be as bad as his mother but she's 95!  I'm young!  I want to be FREE!


To make sure my blood pressure medicines are working right, I've decided to read (and emote about) all the skulduggery - and outright lawlessness - of the CIA and the Air Force of the 50's, 60's, and beyond- trying to wrest programs from each other so they can have POWER and MONEY to fulfill their wildest dreams.

And you thought only UFO's were wandering around out there!

 If you want to join the fun, feel free to read the the book above, but take your meds!  Area 51 will tell you where the children's houses and educations have been going! So Droll!  As is said, "the Navy gets the gravy and the Army gets the beans".  Well, in defense dollars, I'm not sure who garners the most "bread", but my money's on the black ops programs run be the two brigands mentioned above.

For the first time in all my voting life, I was sent what I consider a challenge.  I had to re-register because they couldn't read my signature within their records.  As I said, in 49 years of voting in EVERY election, municipal, state and national, I've never been challenged.

I love multi-cultural, multi-"racial" communities.  They are vibrant and strong, and I don't want them to become VOICELESS because a bunch of rich, mainly white male dominated corporations have stolen elections before and will try again to do it.  Their day is so OVER!

Sunday School and Sunday Matinee

Sunday Matinee this week is the documentary called "Happy".  It chronicles a 30 +  year study of "happiness";  It is about why people are happy instead of depressed even when, by all measures, they shouldn't be happy.

The findings are very informative, especially since Americans are generally an unhappy people, according to most measures of true happiness.  I think it's VERY worth watching.

Cathy meets Matt...

Matthew T. Hall, a reporter for the Union Tribune, wrote an article about the Supreme Court's 5 to 4 decision over whether the Congress had the constitutional authority to write Laws of the Land.  Any fifth grader knows that they do.  But that aside:

Cathy Clark, who fought hard and long for this day to be good for 30 million people, has a lot to say, in counter attack, to the naysayers of local politics, Brain Bilbray, who should know better, and Duncan Hunter JR., who is as close to a political hack as can be got.  Bilbray says - I'm quoting the article - "rising costs make it harder for small businesses to hire workers." Hunter says that - again from the article, "if Congress doesn't repeal the law, it will impose new taxes and higher costs on families and businesses."

In Mr. Hall's article, Cathy Clark says (and I concur) that these are "scare tactics".  Hall quotes her as saying of naysayers," You're entitled to your own opinion, but your not entitled to your own facts, and the fact is that this is going to save a lot of people's lives, and it's going to save a lot of people a lot of money."

In my opinion, the reason this is so is that it will gradually squeeze out a whole class of "middle men", the ones who now get between patients and their doctors.   No one should be making a profit somewhere in that middle.  They are agents of neither doctors nor of their patients, and they need to find other jobs!  Granted, it will not pay as handsomely as the ones they vacate, but at least the money that now goes to them will be better spent.

Friday Fil in, for my DH

1. I knew it was love when...DH took me in his arms and we danced for the first time!

2. My heart can be broken but you always heal over time, and with the help of others.

3. A dog is a sentient being, and one that gives a person unconditional love even when they clearly do not deserve it.

4. My how you have helped me to change, my lovely DH.  You taught me that some people can be trusted with a human heart. ♥

5. Can you see the changes you've made?

6. And the love you gave me is the reason for them.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to resting and knitting, tomorrow my plans include clearing the ceramics table and shopping for frits and glaze body,  and Sunday, I want to go eat some fish and chips!

I will still talk about Healthcare, Animals rights, Human Rights, Heroes for the Planet, Walk with Beauty and Accidental Art, and of course, Knitting and Ceramics and any jewelry I succeed in making.  That should keep me busy enough.*

Anyway, sooner or later, because the people can't be bought and sold by any amount of money or for very long, we will have our democracy back and money won't be buying it so blatantly.  If you are ignorant, then educate yourselves.

My advice is this : Don't watch Fox News, and always, ALWAYS, read the fine print and find out who is placing ads trying to get you to believe things on an emotional level rather than intellectual levels.  Stop letting them push your emotional buttons.  You are not stupid, not at all.  You have good instincts, and you are intelligent enough to sort through all the lies and meet the truth face on.  I love you for trying!  Thank you!  The Democracy depends on all of us thinking our way through things.  God Bless you!

And as for me, I'm looking forward to knitting, sewing, painting, sketching- since Bizarro gave me a clue today! (thank you Dan) Yay!- and making lots of interesting flower pots and/or lamp bases which I will share with you all.

Yesterday we ate some amazing artichokes- huge and round.  I've never seen these types before.   They are good without anything on them.  Delicious!

What I think about a lot

Ellen wondered why GE should keep getting tax breaks while, say, her own mother should have to try to live on even less than she already does.

I think about the downward spiral of our recent history, and who got us here and why we can't seem to do anything about it.

I suppose that since the People( who pay the bills incurred by the government as well as the salaries in Washington) have been gotten by the throat a long time ago and didn't notice that these same government stooges- and the corporations who run them (not all elected officials are stooges of the corporations but enough of them are)- are robbing public treasuries.  They think we will not notice what they, as servants of ALL, are actually doing, like selling out to GE, et al, and the war contractors via the pentagon, etc, because we haven't raised much of a fuss before.  Only Radicals and Anarchists do that sort of stuff.  We nice middle class people just keep paying the bills.

GE is still one of the biggest government war materials contractors at anytime, Peacetime - what is that?- or war time.  I did a search for GE as an arms dealer on line.

Anyway, the power elites are still on the road to rob us of everything WE think is a good idea, i.e. taking care of people in their old age (or in their disability), or those younger people who find themselves robbed by the now infamous Gamblers on Wall Street, or, as children who are helpless and homeless, along with their parents who used to be able to provide for them and no longer can because big corporations have moved so many jobs off shore.

I suppose those who love money and power more than anything else -including their own good names- heavens, what is that worth on the open market?- don't care as long as the people keep supplying a robust 75 to 80% of the economy supported with their domestic purchasing power; the people are expected to willingly do this, along with producing  the next generation of people for resource expeditions to foreign lands, as well as bleating, sheep-like, while voting an impossible ticket!  That would be a ticket that changed nothing because of the entrenched permanent bureaucracy that keeps moving through the revolving doors of the Capitol, as well as the look alike parties who all want the MONEY floating around like MANNA in the Alpine, rarefied atmosphere of Washington DC and the Pentagon.

Now it's probably time to post more pictures of flowers, so that we will know where they have all gone to.  Yes?

I bet most of you didn't know undocumented immigrants contributed more - much more - to the national treasury last year than General Electric. Surprised? Yet it's true.

While GE - which earned a whopping $14 billion last year - is reported to have paid nothing, nada, zero in taxes (GE denies it), the undocumented paid billions in state and local taxes in 2010.

No, it's not me talking; it's the Institute for Taxation and Economic Policy (itepnet.org), a prestigious, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization that works on federal, state and local tax policy issues.
Obviously the old saying, "Nothing is certain but death and taxes," is not to be believed anymore. Or rather, only half of it can be believed."

Since I live in California, where there are a lot of so called Illegal aliens, I've heard, endlessly, of the impact that they have on our State budget.  Well, they also pay taxes INTO our government that do not get returned, even though IF they were legally here, they would get back.   They live below the poverty line, and are entitled to have those funds returned.  This is only one of the reasons why there is always an undercover movement to keep them just where they are, illegal and working here.  Just ask Pete Wilson, who had to be on both sides of the fence on illegal workers, both in the State house, and in Washington DC.

There are also those other ones, those with even more sinister ulterior motives- star maker deals with Faux News, etc.. You know them, they are the ones who sound like they have the attention span and the IQ of a Potato.

I believe that the most recent attacks on PBS started here. For this program alone PBS as taken the wrath of Hell from the right wing evil empire.

I'm convinced, completely, that the genesis of their arrogant ire lies in Frontline and this one particular program.

It's time to take THEIR money away, those who love it so much. They, and their ilk, who thought that they were home free after destroying the economy and getting bailed out, must have laughed all the way to the Bank. Having made so much money through this scam, they were not interested in regulation even after they got a little scare for which they sacrificed Asian and South American economies.

Then came the latest and worst recession, from which the banks were bailed out.

Watch the Frontline program HERE and more about the bail out HERE. This is little reported in the present day press.

This is all our money! Yours, mine and millions of American taxpayers just like ourselves. We'd best find our voices before they come for the kids to work their banana plantations farther to the south.

    Good job writing that one up! Good luck to all you readers out there. Not even staying away from the fast food "restaurants" and standard grocery stores is enough. You have to read every label and investigate every meat product to find out what's in it and where it came from. There is high fructose corn syrup in things you wouldn't even imagine. Meat can be 100% vegetarian fed and still be bad, it could have been fed corn in a feed lot under horrific conditions. To be called free range they only need to have access to outdoors for 15 mins before they are slaughtered. You need to make sure that free range means never confined to be fed and that vegetarian diet means grass fed. Find out what CSA means and whether there are any near you. Find smaller grocery stores that sell at least some organic foods and are small enough that you can talk to the people who work there about what they sell. It is more costly, I can sympathize with families who can't afford to eat healthy food. Shame on the people who are responsible for them not being able to afford it and shame on the people who are responsible for the only things they can afford being so horrible. "

Hey there ...thanks for taking the time to comment.  You make some very good points about what has happened to the farm delivery system and the way big corporations have stealthed in and taken over, leaving everyone  vulerable to their very bad decisions, from farmers to workers to consumers, not to mention the cruelty to other sentient beings in this ugly system.  It does not have to be this way! 

What you say is sadly true.  We have let the needy down by subsidizing corn and soy beans so that all the additives made from it, and not fit to feed to any growing child, are so cheap that they are ubiquitous throughout the diet..hidden in it, ready to cause this epidemic of early onset diabetes.  One of the farmers was left allergic to all anti biotics that had been tried for her.  What sort of system of raising animals for food is that??

To get back to the kids and the poor, after their only affordable diet renders them ill, then the so called "elites" look down their noses and snear, saying something to the effect that it's all poor families' faults because food is a "choice".

So, this is about "choice" is it?   Why did corporate giants in the industry "choose" to load the airwaves with ads aimed at kids, many of whom are getting so little to eat in the first place, and then make these bad (can't bring myself to call them foods) foods cheaper than any of the good food?  Such evil things don't spring up overnight.  It was probably a carefully planned and executed plan in the first place.  They didn't leave anything to chance, skipping around the hallways of the Congress and pummeling the Halls of Justice, and the farmers, with their highly paid "three piece suits".

What we shouldn't be eating.... a quickie review of a blockbuster of a film.

Yes, a little black cloud drifted over paradise tonight. The happy channel (my little box) just showed a rather interesting film, and part of the audience, me, had to leave the "theater" while the graphic parts were shown.

We knew we shouldn't eat raw sewerage, but there's a lot of other stuff we shouldn't be eating either.

Take something called Pink Slime. It's the food industry's answer to e.coli in their ground beef. Guess where they were using it? School lunches were found to have it, and fast food burgers. Now, in this film, I finally got to see it actually being made! It's made from some entrails, fatty globs, and Ammonia, for one thing. Talk about icky additives.

Food.Inc, not a documentary about your grandmother's eating problems growing up, but baby it sure is about yours.

Also, this movie points to the fact that we, as consumers, need to help the farmers as they are being eaten alive, pardon the pun, by the food producing conglomerates. There are some farmers in this film that you just want to bike over and buy from, right out of the fields, to save them from Monsanto. Our farmers should not be being treated this way. It's One Hundred and TEN percent WRONG! I can see why they are so damn pissed off.

Ever hear of Kevin's Law? This needs some good old fashioned ground roots hollering and help, too. Listen closely to Kevin's Mother and her seven year battle, by now more, to close up the loopholes used by unnamed corporations (heck I don't want to be sued anymore than the next guy) in FDA control over the industry.

Your food dollars have POWER my friends. Make them work for the corny, another pun, Greater Good. I just remembered we didn't vet that new brand of tortillas we bought last week. *slaps forehead* You do NOT want any GMOs running around your blood stream. Not good for you.

Things you can do about all this

We, the consumers, have some power in this and we can change it. Everyone can have a part in the successful change.

OK, I've worked the fire from gross feed lot films out of my belly. I'm going to bed and read a nice, little Gray Panther,  Grannie magazine about how to set my new short hairdo in curlers and how to apply pink lipstick- organic lipsticks, not tested on an Animal!

Good night World! Let's not keep our backs turned while they do these horrid things anymore. Just spend your dollars where it helps the ones making the changes, and help make sure that farmer's markets, where the healthiest foods are, are equipped to take food stamps so the poorer folk can eat better to.

Not with a shout but with a whimper..

But Senator Christopher Bond, Republican of Missouri, had put a “hold” on her appointment to pressure the government into approving a building project in Kansas City.
This dubious achievement may have inspired Senator Richard Shelby, Republican of Alabama. In any case, Mr. Shelby has now placed a hold on all outstanding Obama administration nominations — about 70 high-level government positions — until his state gets a tanker contract and a counterterrorism center."

And so, will our Country finally die, "in Committee", like so many of it's proposed "General Welfare" bits of legislation?
