Two, very early, Tuesday Tails: One funny. One is FEMA's new map of Flood danger for the entire US, so far....

I hope that this finds you all happy, and me busily knitting.  Next week is really hectic so this is being written early.

The first item is mighty interesting.  It's a Tuesday Tails because all of Other Earthlings - innocent parties who have had no part in this - are going to die, like the chickens in cages and the hogs in their pens, during Florence.

The Humans who care have to try harder to get the nitwits in Washington on board for this..

Antarctica is  rebounding  at an accelerated rate.  It also sits on it's very own tectonic plate.  And, as the ice cap there melts, the land will rebound.   This, by itself is enough to be concerned about, but combined with the new sea levels, it's even more serious.  Antarctica also has a huge dome of magma under the mantle there, not unlike the one at Yellowstone.  Geology is getting very interesting.

Time to build the New Age Ark?

I'm doing all the things that can be done.  Also, had a very interesting dream last night.  It was almost like I was awakened, and someone was talking to me (In the dream, I woke fully but the dream went on).
A man, a thin one with a bald head was talking to me.  He was a sort of Nordic type.

Anyway, he was telling me that I was free of many things from the past and other "worries".  Things that I worry about and ache over.  He was setting me free from these thoughts.

One thing I'm certain of is that he didn't represent Jesus.  I don't want anyone to have the wrong impression.  But this person had some standing (ranking) in a mixed group who all wore robes.  He was the only person that I saw though I did hear someone else talking as well.  Somehow, this has made me feel better.  And, when I woke all the way up, I felt less sad; though not supremely happy, just less sad.

We have sold the really nice Webco table and chairs.  But, now, I'm thinking of keeping the little wooden set.  They were made in Indiana I think.  Anyway, there is something about wood, and something about an item this unique, that makes me say, "Keep This".  I've regretted getting rid of wooden things before, and don't want to rue the day I sold this set.  The two of them took up so much space, even when folded!

The  metal set was bought for a time that I was in a Bunco group, and we needed more seating. If you've never played Bunco, you are missing out!  My wooden set is older, and I bought it from my sister when she moved here years ago.  But, as you can see, those little wooden sets are sort of hard to let go of.  I have no connection to that company, but they certainly have the Bunco rules down pat!

I've torn through my magazine clipping collection and freed up space - Lots of Space.  In a few days, when the fever from the excitement of seeing old project papers wears off again, I will go back with a vengeance and rip through it all again.  I did find a pattern for a knitted doll.  My knitting fingers are itching to do small things, and once the Manly Beastly is knit, assembled, blocked, and ON THE MAN,  I will do little things again.

Meanwhile, I will be watching some hoarding shows to get the motivation to crank this up a notch.  I really mean to be a grown up about it all.  And, it's not all a grind.  I did find some old things that are treasures.

I'm a Wannabe....

I could rage against the NRA today, but I won't.  What a sad mess.

Can I do this Raging Granny thing from the comfy chair that keeps my back from collapsing?

There is no group, that I can find, in my city.  Of course there isn't.  It might spoil the little red dot on the map.  I'm seeking something I can do to support their work.  Wish me luck.

Churches launch a worldwide council in support of garment workers.

As reported in August, 2013:

The Council of Churches Worldwide launch a Crusade against abuse of garment workers in Bangladesh.

And a report from Aljazerra America about what's happened, or not, a year later...

What this transformation from slave labor levels will take is less proselytizing - from sites I've read, one can tell it's thick and deep - and more actual growth in areas that are neither political nor religious, but economically revolutionary.  This is specifically by Fair Trading these goods.

These workers deserve nothing less than an all out effort put forth to insure living wages, a fair pay scale, and safe working conditions,and this all organized around the Garment industry just as other producers of products for Western markets have done with raw goods, such as tea, coffee, and chocolate, etc., for world wide markets..

I hope this makes sense to me but especially to you tomorrow; I am so tired.

All over the world, there are people from Europe and America working to better the lives of those in poverty.  Here we have candidates, running hard for public office (that trough of public money) wanting to cut even more holes in the safety net that keeps people from starving to death in the streets. 

Is this really the sort of country we want?

Women, War & Peace, PBC series Starting October 11

As a woman with four daughters, this subject is very important to me. I will be joining the discussion to the extent that I am able. It comes at a bad time for me to participate except on the web.

License to Freedom

Rather than continue to rage against the machine that we ALL know is running (and unfortunately ruining) so many lives, I'd like to introduce you to one of our local feminine heroes.  Let us celebrate the beautiful Souls that walk among us!
 
This amazing woman has been in our city since around 2002.  A few years ago, May 18th, 2008, an article about Dilkhwaz Ahmed ran in our local paper.   I had saved the article and came across it while cleaning things in my sewing room.   I don't often save articles from that paper.

It was about "License to Freedom", the organization she directs but in particularly it was about how License to Freedom was helping women to rebuild their lives once they arrived in San Diego.   The organization provided crisis intervention, self-sufficiency programs,as well as advocacy for refugee and immigrant survivors of family violence.

I admire her so much. To me she is a Hero for the Planet, though she would never, ever, see herself this way.

Let me introduce you to Dilkhwaz Ahmed, a Kurdish woman, and scholar, whose organization promotes Azadi, meaning "freedom", to so many newcomers to the United States.  Hers is an organization that celebrates Freedom, in all it's full and beautiful range of meanings, for our sisters in this life.

The poster on the bottom left (that my scanner cut off) says, "Violence doesn't mean love in any language."

At the time of the article, she was not united with her husband, though her children had finally arrived.  Now I am very happy to know that her husband has finally been granted asylum in the United States, and has been re-united with his family.
