Tuesday TaiIs: Why I Plan to completely stop eating Beef....

If this goes SOUTH, where it looks like it is going....

and this is why....

Point Reyes Elk Herd

A lot of American Beef and dairy product (not fresh milk of course) is shipped overseas.  It might not be these ranchers and dairy farmers in particular, but if it is, I want them to feel my outrage.  I'm on a road to find out where their product goes.

The Tule Elk subspecies  once ranged across the Central Valley.  They almost became extinct, and were down to 10 individuals due to Market Hunters, when rescued.  That was when they were introduced to the Peninsula they now inhabit, as well as various other sites.

In an odd twist of fate, we have a Rancher to thank for saving them when he recognized their plight.

This reminds me not to condemn all Ranchers as destructive.   I actually like ranches but I don't think they should have the last word.  And certainly not in something this important.  Illegal killings take place as it is.  That's a big empty country up there.  I don't want to subsidize the death of a California Icon for more beef cattle.  They aren't natives at ALL!  They are an English breed, and they are now all over the American landscape....they are everywhere.

Food Foraging Friday? Not pretty cakes and pies. A Rant

20,000 children die everyday from starvation.  Unicef estimates, this is from 2010, that number to be 25,000, and they should know.

You may have seen this on Pinterest:

Whatever that number is, It's HUGE!

And being vegan doesn't really help this.  But a keen and caring awareness does.
Don't let that "Circus McGurcus" in Washington distract you from this reality.   We need to protect our children.

This Earth is a tiny speck of blue, way out on the edge of a Galaxy. and at the edge of the Universe.  We should be able to feed the people who are here.  We have the resources, we just lack the will!

Live in the US?  We have hungry ones here, too.  Little kids who go to bed hungry every night.  When I was a teacher's aide, I was given the assignment of taking some of these kids, one on one, to just talk about life with them, and so I know they didn't get to eat either breakfast or sometimes dinner.

It's gotten worse and worse for them as their parents cannot find work to sustain their families.  This was caused by Financial Giants who haven't given a damn since before the banks collapsed in 2008.
Ladies, we have a job to do.

We really need to do this for the kids, ours, and "theirs".  Theirs includes some pretty important present and future leaders who want to make a world community that WORKS.  We can't afford to be greedy about this, or clueless.  There is no escape.  There is no Space vehicle.  We can't take "It", what ever that is, with us no matter what we try.

What a wonderful world it would be....

I give you something to Ponder...This Monday is for Musing...

“Crazy Horse dreamed and went into the world where there is nothing but the spirits of things.  That is the real world that is behind this one, and everything we see here is something like a shadow from that world….  It was this vision that gave him his great power, for when he went into a fight, he had only to think of that world to be in it again, so that he could go through anything and not be hurt.”  - Black Elk

How much this was like other holy people who could walk through chaos without being touched by it.....

Europeans are not the only ones with magical stories to tell of this world of dreams.  We, as a people,  need to listen to all the Human Stories because they link us all.  We, the whole Earth, are one people, one Nation, and exist within that One Eternal, Holy Mind....

Friday Craft day...

I've been neglecting my crafting gene, other than knitting, so the troll through Pinterest yielded this ...

From the Etsy shop, Simple Country Burlap,
whose owner kindly has made this lovely video..

And, I've set my mind and hear(t) to make it!  Hopefully in the next month....

Today I worked today, cleaning and resting; The war on dust is going well.
My sore crooked back has been with me since I was 26 and it's not going to ruin the rest of my life if I can help it.  I have, after all, hauled the ungrateful thing around for 50 years.

I'm also going to make three little burlap and felt pumpkins to go with the cornucopia that I made a few years ago.....  I feel that fall is coming and it can't get here a moment too soon.

This Image is from FairField World  and the pumpkins were created by Pink Lemonade – Keri Lee Sereika  Whose blog is HERE  but who has since graduated to the big leagues of LinkdIn and other social media...

Anyway.... Isn't Pinterest wonderful?

Saturday 9 will publish at midnight....

Tuesday Tails: for the Earth, who is the Mother of Us All

Notable Quote:
"Imagine if every foot of coastline around the world was stacked with five plastic grocery bags stuffed with plastic trash. That’s the amount of plastic waste that ends up in our oceans each year. This visual is staggering."

Isn't it incredible to imagine?

National Geographic Took this on:

Let's do our best.  Each person, always.  Let's get this under control.

Together, we can all do it.  But it will take....The Sum of Us....

Some Knitting blah blah and a little yarn porn

Both of these Lana Grossa yarn gloves are done and I'm doing up the ends this afternoon on all the short fingered gloves.  An eye appointment looms.  I'm not thrilled because silver now looks white to me.

Always remember:  The first Hundred years are the hardest. 😉

I never get second sock fever so I'm glad to say that immunity has stretched into the glove sets, too.  Happily!  The next ones will be of #3, which is a beautiful pinks, corals, and white variegation.

Project Dirt... London.. but anyone anywhere can start this.....

Santa Cruz County California school systems have something like this in place that's been going on for years.. One of my daughters helped in the gardens.  I can think of several other inner city programs over the years, too.  I like the concept of Project Earth as it is in the UK, too.

They could teach big cities a lot about changing the world with their strategy of beginning at the roots and with the little kids.....We need this Earth and Child connection just.... EVERYwhere!

Project Earth is in London.  If your own city doesn't have this connection between the little humans and their inheritance, i.e. Planet Earth, maybe this is something you can start, support, or promote in your city?

The future is out there, and it's waiting for us to save our Planet, one little acre at a time, if that's all we can do.  There are 8 billion of us.  That's a lot of Acres!
Get the little kids started early.  Let them get their tiny hands dirty.

THIS IS NOT a Saturday9... Mac and Cheese in a mug? Who knew...

sorry peeps, I am knitting my blues away...and reading a very good book.  But I did poke around Pinterest.  A big exciting place to chase away the blues.....And it's easier to use- since you can use it fully on a computer with a BIG PICTURE WINDOW, unlike Instagram.

Well, what else is Pinterest for but to steal ideas and make them available to the world.  So, I'm making my contribution today...

Allison, over at Society 19 /The college life  stole 10 ideas -great ideas from various places, one of which was from HERE

She then posted them on Pinterest....  and I grabbed them all... especially the mac and cheese  because it will work well with any pasta - I can stir in some herbs, Olives and Olive oil, and have a quick little Italian meal..
This is From Here at SheKnows Blog.
I like this recipe a lot, too.

I know what I'll be doing when I need a quick little meal.  And there is even dessert.  I knew about the Mug of Chocolate Molten Cake but the variety of one serving mug meals is now astounding!  These little things are ALL OVER THE INTERNET!

And, who knew indeed!

PS: New Bird of Paradise Species discovered....

You'll love this.  Edit:  I believe that even if God's Hand is what we, who know nothing, call Evolution, there is a plan to all of this.

Happy Easter! And, some true humility from a wonderful VIP, a good person.... Pope Francis

Sunday Stealing will publish in 5 minutes. If all goes well that is....

Friday Brief from the New York Times.  And this is no April Fool.....

A Highlight

"One highlight came on Holy Thursday, when Pope Francis washed the feet of prisoners in Rome — including two Muslims, an Orthodox Christian and a Buddhist."

'Everyone always has the opportunity to change life,' Francis said, 'and one cannot judge.'

imho.... This Pope is "tres cool."

Happy Easter, Y'all

Stone on the heart

Lots of poets, religious teachers, and other writers have described how life experiences had put a stone on their hearts.
So, I've decided to get one off my heart and hand it back to the giver, they can have it, after all it's theirs, let them carry it around on their hearts.

So I visualize doing this, handing it back to them and saying, "here, this is yours."  And,  by God it works!  It's not revenge in any way, it's just not my stone, and I refuse to carry it anymore because:

Right along with it goes that connection to all the bitterness and regret that it caused.

They own this stone...

Go Ahead.  Get rid of more of them....

Then and only then do I feel I'm rid of it... I can move on in my life and make things better for the people who really count.

Thanks for listening....

Bits of knitting blah blah. And, wishing you all a Happy Valentine's Day ...

Knitting short fingered gloves, and I found this marvelous video about joining yarn and solving problematic holes, too.  This technique is the closest to the one I learned many years ago when first making mittens for my older daughters.  It can be used to close the top and bottom gaps in the fingers, too.  Now, to get some 5 inch #5 double points!

What I'm knitting now.. It's a washable wool/acrylic blend and I'm making short fingered gloves for patients in the cancer ward at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz.  I have a ton of yarn, and that's what I'll be doing.  Knitting it up....

Happy Valentine's Day y'all..

NYT Story: Woman who rescues cats who ran from fires in Sonoma.

This work is noteworthy.  So much Kindness.....  I hope that you will be inspired in some way by this.  Communities can survive if enough people step up and help.  No matter WHAT is going on in Washington, help in your communities when it's needed Heals the Heart...
