is it Thursday Already? Mon Dieu!

Fun Fact:From this discussion piece in the NYT
"Bennett: 'Actually, more women than men have earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees since the 1980s. And for the past 10 or so years, they have also earned more doctoral degrees.' "
And from the newest Trump obsession, "Pork is good for you", we have THIS:

Wind turbines cause cancer?  Really?  Everyone put on your tinfoil hats.

Has the Karmic Wheel finally caught all the ones responsible in some mass Genocide in Human History in one place at one time?  Who knows?  It could just be a big Clown Act Glitch!

Fun fun fun... or as the French would put it:

"Laissez le bon temps rouler!"

Back to my knitting, and reading of, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.

Both Thankful Thursday and Thursday13: Rabbit madness

Yes, there are 13
I'm crazy about rabbits, and have the scars to prove it.  They kick and can be pretty obstreperous.   We had Angela, the Attack Rabbit.  She was the very best mother because she didn't let anyone near her babies.

If you have never seen a tiny, four week old Holland Lop rabbit sizing up a "Great Wall of Cardboard" and crouching to jump over it before letting fly, trust me, you've missed out on one of the best Happiness Buttons you can push.

Thankful Thursday: Flowers

It's a 100ºF!  But, I'm grateful for the Spring and Summer, and the abundance of flowers.  I want big bouquets of them in my life again.  So that's where most of the flowers pictures on the blog have come from- bouquets of old.

DH was able to bring me a bouquet every Friday, from the farmer's market.  But that Market closed.
So, I have the memories in photos so expect a lot of flower headers!

I'll tell you how we were able to keep most of the flowers fresh for a whole week.  Be sure to prepare the warm mixture just before slicing off about two inches of all the stems in your bouquet.  This allows the stems to be cleared so that they can take up the water into themselves.  They are sort of sealed off when first cut away from the plants.

The Recipe that we used:
"A simple recipe for homemade floral preservative is: one teaspoon sugar, one teaspoon bleach, two teaspoons lemon juice and one quart lukewarm water. The sugar is food, the bleach disinfects, and the lemon juice acidifies the water and helps the flowers take it up."

(One change.  We used white vinegar in place of lemon juice.)

is from New York Botanical Garden's Page, HERE.  Scroll down a bit....

And this article, from the same place, is all about handling cut flowers.

This technique, with various ingredients, is all over the web now, but I know that the mixture of white vinegar, sugar and bleach, all three in small amounts, with that warm water, really does work!

Forget aspirin and vodka.

Have a happy and safe weekend...  See you in a few...........

Thankful Thursday, a Tuesday Tails on Thursday....This is a three tails today.... Knitting on the bottom

Ok, more rescue stories but you can handle them,  they have an "awwwwhh" factor of 129,845,876.90.

You can do it!  Trust me.  It's one of those things done for "The Greater Good".

1st of all: Benji's story

Meet the organization that rescued Benji from the streets.  Though I don't think Benji had actually never been in a home before,  he was lost, or maybe just abandoned and living an absolutely miserable existence.  I hope someone has adopted this beautiful little companion dog by now..

Just think of Benji as a white version of Wolfie.  I know the wolf put up a really hardy fight when he was rescued.  .Benji's story is Wolfie's story.

We've often wondered what Wolfie's life in the wild was like, or what he looked like, just before he was rescued off the streets by Animal Control.  He was very ill, nearly hairless from Alopecia, severe flea allergy, and starvation. Thank you's go to Animal Control, in partnership with the San Diego Humane Society who gave him weeks of good care.  THANK YOU, EVERYONE!

Wolfie's still fierce, and he's even feisty at times.  He gets an intense wild look in his eyes and flies around the living room, jumping from the sofa to the chairs like a little mad dog when he comes in from his walks.  Then he snuggles up next to me in the chair.  Wolfie is also long haired and fluffy, so that's why he would have looked just like this bedraggled little fellow in the video when rescued himself.

I am also very thankful that Hope For Paws Rescue is working to save stray dogs that others think of as Mangy Curs.  BLESS YOU!

2nd of all: Violet's story.

Oh!  You can foster from HFP, too!  I must talk to Mr.Z. about this part.  heehee

3rd of all: Towhee fledgling Rescue story.

Sorry for the baddish picture but it's through two layers of glass.
I so want a Canon EOS Rebel, but then I'd have to walk more than is good for me.  I still want it.  Yes, when it comes to cameras, I'm definitely materialistic.
The bird pictures are spectacular!

A few days ago, I was watching the birds at the birdbath, and saw this bedraggled youngster hopping about under the geranium patch.  She/he had feathers askew on the right wing, some askew on her head, as though he/she had been either cat caught, or was suffering from window strike.  Since we purposely have grids on all our windows to keep this from happening, I was sure the bird had been cat caught and figured it would eventually die, since most do.  I do not give up with out a fight, so it was time to rescue!

I chase cats out of my yard all the time but you can't chase them all.  I knew that the parent birds had brought their fledgling here for training, but they were not here anymore.

So, for three days now I've put out a grain (organic Red Mill, nothing but the best for my baby bird) cereal out on the pavers, with a side of mixed seeds and fruit and nuts crumbled on another one.  The transformation in the bird is spectacular.  She's now chasing away the smaller sparrows until she gets to eat. and flying up to the Cape honeysuckle to clean her bill and be comfortable.  She also scratches around for insects here and there, and takes baths in the birdbath.  One little heart saved, I'd say.

My nickname for my daughter was "Little Bird" so I watch out for all the birds in our garden now with increased diligence.

Knitting report: The sleeve  has been tinked, and a couple more rows added.  Now it's about five, maybe six inches long and so Mr. Z tried it on over his wrist.  It fits well.  I'm chuffed.  And yes, Rho, more markers are working better.  Now to get the concentration and co-operation of "the little grey cells."

tinking is done now... Yay!  Golly what a job!

Three Large bags of machine knitters yarn plus some
weaver's yarn were free cycled last week.  Yay!
I went to my sister's today, and she was cheerful but fighting her disease all the way.  She is, like Laura, very brave.  We talked about rose care,  traded pictures between phones, and all the Brotherly and Sisterly chit chat.

My funk meter is stuck at about half a degree below "reacts to stimuli"  So come and limp along with me while I try to force it into the GREEN zone.

Thankful Thursday: Recocco decorated flip flop just suited my mood to a tee. Plus Blue Ant Studio Monkey of flip flops

When we went north the last time, I baaaadly need shower shoes,  Since I forgot my tevas back home it was time I started poking around the web for stuff.  These sites caught my eye.

Since already having dragged what is needed for these fun fur flip flop projects down into my cozy black hole I wanted something a little more dressy.  But, there are too many others to make!  Too Many!

But,  and when they are done, I'll dlimb back out and show you.  Right now I'm off to the dollar store or maybe Michaels or TJMax for what I don't already have.

I like these too.

Go here to see an amazing monkey sculpture made all of flip flop.  I cannot get the page to work because of the combat zone of the web between Https and Http.  So be it.  Just follow this LINKIE
to Blue Ant's Studio who constructed it.

Anyway, the thing I'm thankful for is YouTube!   You could entertain your brain for hours and hours!

Thankful Thursday: Skywatcher Post and sweet Neva kitty, sleeping

I am thankful for the beauty of Planet Earth, a planet on which all our ancestors, though some admittedly developed greed, vengeance, guile, and  aggression, also developed binocular, color vision.
And, they also did the heavy lifting to develop both Loving Kindness and the appreciation of beauty, and gave us all their endearing habit of making pets out of just any animal that didn't bite too hard.

I want Loving Kindness to win but I know lots and lots of people want that, too.  Here's to US!

May you walk with Beauty all around you...

Before the Storm, March 29th, 2016

Dear Neva. She is a darling.
She's one of the three family cats in Santa Cruz.

Thankful Thursday: Documentaries that spell things out

I'm very grateful that there are those in the world who will make documentaries about big important entities that ill advisedly hurt rather than help, or worse yet, are using aide as a foot in the door to expand their own markets.

Three Cheers and a big Thank you to Poverty Inc.  at http://www.povertyinc.org/

Here's a preview.  You might want to take the time to watch the complete Documentary on other media.....Netflix, Amazon, etc.

I certainly want to make sure my donations and money are helping and not hurting.  And I thought maybe you would like to know, too.

CARE thought so too many years ago.  READ about that in a New York Times Article from 2003.  It's been talked about since then, at least, but much further back than that -much, much further back.

Thank you for reading this far, if you have, and may you have a happy weekend.

Pray for all the fire fighters!

Thankful Thursday, and I'm Grateful to be able to help Animals

In remembrance of Elle, who loved all animals......

No, I never give up.  I'll give up when I'm DEAD!  I'm so grateful for the chance to help, even if just a little......

Humane Society International many, many animals, and also help the kitties and saves thousands of them from going slaughtered for the meat trade, too!

Learn more HERE if you don't know already about the amount of work these folks are doing for abused animals all over the world.

Join me?  I'm now re-dedicating this, as a tribute, to my daughter, who loved animals and especially the kitties.  She asked me to knit booties and mitts and things for the hospital which cared for her.  They have plenty of hats she said.

Anyway, last week (has it only been a week?  I've lost track of time) we saw her confused little cats who slept on her hospital bed when we were there.   There are two loving people there, also, who are also their  humans, so the kitties, two, are not devastated, just probably wondering when she's coming back.

Just another Thursday...

I'll be sooooo glad when the weekend is over.

Maybe I'll knit, or maybe not.  But, I did get my arse out the door to visit my sister.  We always have a tech session, over lunch, about the beauties of the iPad and androids devices.  Sometimes we talk plants, which we are both heavily into, as well.

I'm taking a weekend off for sanity, and hopefully some knitting. I have been copying a TON of photos and photo shopping them, so that's that for the eyes for awhile.
Pinterest

Now to upload all the photos to some cloud thinga somewhere.  No, Google, you are my second choice because you don't seem to give a rat's ass how carefully I put them into folders, or all of my mods.  ;p
Anyway, I anticipate that this will take the most time but the programs are smarter than I am, so I must respect them for that.

So far, this is what I would have shown you on Friday, which is a day I won't be on line.
Unnatural light.. Shroom form

The aqua blue marker is a tiny
memorial from a friend's knit stash
This photo is in Natural light

And this little button, from the Wildlife Federation, is something I found while cleaning out a drawer.  Yes, it is getting done but glacially.

The button might just be featured in the side bar as a linkable button at some later date.  I've been trying to clean up that side bar, and make things load faster.

See you in a few!  Sorry to miss out on the meme fun but I need to attend to things around here in the worst way.

Thankful Thursday- fudo rings at rusty ring blog

I am ever so thankful for my blog lists - where, sometimes, my questions to the vast Universe are answered.

Read about fudo rings, and what/whom a fudo is, at rusty ring blog.... Sorry I can't make a fancy linkie on the iPad.  Yet.. 🦄
I  figured it out!

Thankful Thursday: a night of lightning in the room

I'm very Grateful for some amazing vision like dreams and experiences of a spiritual nature especially when I was with two friends at my house, and at two other separate times.
These events may have been answers to questions I was asking at the time, and I've pondered them in my heart ever since we saw then in 1971.

One involved a friend and our two eldest daughters, late at night.  I never will probably understand why we had these phenomena revealed to us, but life is a continual search for meaning, is it not?.
Now with everything happening in weird ways again, I wonder if this is the time for things to be revealed.  Dear God, I hope so for our family's sake at least.  Help ,please because we all need to have the peace that comes with  you.

Thankful Thursday

In the cleaning up of bits and pieces yesterday, I found this:

Wolfie was singularly unimpressed....

He whined to be petted after I kept saying to him, " See, there's your cousin, see?"
Then he just flipped over with a big sigh of resignation, and took a nap.

I'm grateful to see that the Arctic Wolf has been holding onto existence to this day.  It's still being argued about whether it is a separate species or is just a different color adaptation of the grey wolf, but it is still here.  Fur traders and others nearly slaughtered every single one, either by poison or bullets, during the late1800's and nearly up to the time this article was written in 1987.

After reading the article, I found the author's book, used, and bought it.  It will be arriving from the UK soon.  I'm thankful for the 7/24 nature of the web.

The only live wolf I've ever seen came running up to me in a slough when we were out bird watching. He wanted to be petted!

By the way, an iPad2 takes as good, almost, a picture as Apple's famous iPhone.  The Kindle, however, sucks at it!

Thankful Thursday and some Accidental Art: approx #29 in a series..

Earlier, while texting a friend in Texas, I snapped this picture down thataway,*points*, and sent it to her.

We both said, "Accidental Art!"

It's been a better day than most.  There was good news from up North, encouraging and so, so sweet! God Bless my Gritty DDs and DD's doctors and her partner!

And thank you to all who are praying for her.  (((BIG HUGS!!)))

And please remember to pray for Colt in Texas.  He needs those prayers, too!

When sorting and tossing, I found this amazing hank of rough spun rug yarn in a tangle.  After teasing and flipping it around for awhile, a single knotted place appeared.  So, having run out of time to deal with it, I hung it on the same nail as the unpainted birdhouse gourd from our niece, who is also artsy/crafty.  And there it was, Accidental Art!

I think it will be a shawl

((((More big HUGS!))))

Thankful Thursday: This HUGE victory deserves to be shared.

Sea World has agreed to end captive breeding.  They are phasing out their shows and will work with HSUS, and Humane Societies worldwide to end whaling
READ all about it.  And be happy for the Earth, and the other Earthlings.

Thankful Thursday: Sweater knitting, Birdsong, Beauty, and Songs from the Heart of Gladness

Beautiful, Beautiful!  Look HERE.

Thank you Pina; you've touched my heart.  Thank you,  thank you, dear friend, my Sister of the Heart!

Also, this book:
Nice but naughty?
This book is a knitter's little necessity.  Alas, it informed me that grafting off only works on one and one ribbing.  So, it will have to be a regular cast off and stitching together on the neck edge, which I'm afraid will drive Elle crazy when she tries to wear it.  But, we'll see.

The rest of the sweater can be sewn up decently which is a BOON! And, it's part of what I've done...

Pink Stardust this AM
A newer book which, in my distracted state I actually thought I owned, is coming from the Amazonian Jungle (jk) and will be here on Friday.  I'll see what they have to say about grafting 2X2 ribs.  I'm sorry that it's taken so long, sweet girl.

I believe the whole thing has been knit, in toto, at least 1.5 times, since I frogged the sleeves TWICE!  I will be happy to send it off very SOON with love knit into every, single stitch.

Thankful Thursday: Entertaining your brain whilst under the influence of Fate.

I'm doing this over several days.  It could be rough, rambling and choppy as well as riddled with complicated errors of both syntax and grammar.

 Thankful Thursday, and beyond...

I'm thankful and grateful for my four DD's, Mr. Z, my sister, and the little Wolfie, and last but not least, for friends, far and wide.
Wolfie, I'm especially grateful for in that he has stayed charming and buoyant even when the Alpha Female snapped, snarled, and howled her way through the past week and a half. Actually, Mr.Z gets some kudos for that, too.
Wolfie, sleeping on the old chair.

In Truth, a preternatural calm overcame me a few days after learning what that Prankster, Fate, had shuffled out of his dark little corner to bestow.  This was only riven, from one hour to the next, by the purest form of unmitigated grief and dread....Thus the howling.

I'm grateful for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  Thank you, President Obama.  I'm sorry, Republicans, I think the man has big Golden Wings.

Alas, before this time, when it could have been caught by an indifferent HMO, it was not.  I'll just say that I think that any healthcare organisation which dismisses women as hypochondriacs is a thief, of dollars and of lives.

Also, we, as Americans, need to get the protocol changed for screenings before 50 years of age because there are so many cases turning up in younger people. And, it's a silent killer.

I'm still mostly Wildly Howling inside.  Those little Peace Bells just didn't cut it.

Later......

Of course it seemed like a good time to start knitting, yes?  What mood swinging, sometimes catatonic, wildly howling person ever thinks straight?  You can guess that I started my bargaining with God right away, too.  I've been through all five stages already.  If I weren't so emotional this might not be the case, but there you have it.  I'm Certifiably Emotional.

Ah, but back to knitting.  I started working, once more, on the sleeves of DD's pink Stardust sweater. Everything else is finished. The first thing that I did was rip out all that was done because, in my highly focused in state - bordering on blind  insanity-  I thought there was a mistake in the ribbing.  duh.  There wasn't.  I read my notes far too tardily, and E, voila!  There it was in black and white.

Knitting is still very calming.  I think it works better than the peace bell at the moment.

So, it's back to knitting with fran's ten minute rule. Oh, and I just hand washed all the woolie socks but spun dried them to hang.

As to mistakes, mistaken or not, eyes that Glare for days at heartless FATE ,and wish it DEAD, can get awfully sore.

So, anyway,  trudging right along in my narrowly focused little pit of angst, now four rows are back. Nine is a lucky number, yes?  According to THIS Chinese New Year page, it is...

The Nine

Later still:
I have been entertaining my brain in other ways, too.  Happily the eyeballs did not fall out and roll around in the detritus on the floor, so they healed up enough for pretty good focus on knitting projects.  Crying a river is over.

Now for something else, another entertain the brain part.

If you don't like the clear (or plain white) that your soft soaps come in  - including the gallon jugs from Costco/Walmart/CVS - you should hie on down and garner yourself some icing dyes at Michaels, JoAnna or perhaps Harbor Freight, with coupons that will go to waste otherwise.  This is because you probably do, like me, also have every other thing you ever wanted from a fabric/craft/cheap Hardware store and then some!  But I am starting to ramble again.

Taking those usually useless coupons with you ( even though you know these places put EVERYTHING that sells well on sale) and now, I suggest you fool them and score some cake icing dyes of your favorite colors.  You know, slip on under their radar.

Now, my friends,  make changes to your soft soap when you refill.  Next time when you walk into the powder room -  which is just a fancy word for bathroom but daintier sounding - you can get an instant HIGH on the colors of your soaps!  Extravagance happens if you also put some essential oils in, maybe ten drops.  Be sure to buy unscented soft soap in it's mega bottles somewhere, maybe at Costco, or wherever.

The pink is a Wilton: One smidgen only, as the color goes a long ways.
The purple is one drop of left over Neon Pink Egg dye.
It's those dyes that come in cute little bottles with pointed tops
I know that there are fifteen (at least) different and excellent Videos on You Tube dealing with making foaming soap.  I've posted one in the past.
Mr. Z. has a "He-man" colored, dark green bottle and needs no colors, "thankyouverymuch", so I'm pretty much done at my house.

You can also make your own clear soap refilling liquid but meh.  Soap chips do make good liquid soap, just save them in a jar of water.  This is economical and fun.  If you are a quilter or seamstress, soap chips have a more useful application.  They make great markers!  Waste not, want not, and you also don't have to worry about birds at the land fill eating them and getting sick.  If you aren't worried, shame on you you can always give the chips to a friend who would use them.  Home use only!

I've also spent time contemplating "plant biology".  For instance, I've started studying my breakfast oranges to see if they have an equal or unequal number of segments, and why.  Some oranges have a tiny segment stuck to a big one, that sort of thing.  This one had ten, and yesterday, the orange had eleven.  I can't read a book, you see.  My mind wanders abruptly into dark thoughts and other alley ways.

So, this biology will have to remain a mystery.  I'm not reading anymore.  I wonder if fractals have anything to do with it?  Who doesn't like fractals?

Breakfast orange slices

I have, however, done dozens and dozens of App puzzles, this is one of them:

Isn't it Gorgeous?  From Kris
Even Later:

That puzzle up there reminded me of the Kogi tribe documentary we watched.  It looks a quite a lot like their vision of their Goddess, the one who made the Earth and the Universe.

The Kogi live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Bolivia, and started it all, by "all" I mean the interest in the tribes of the Andes and the alto plano.  The tribe's story is told, once again, by the same man who first filmed them in the late 1980's. I went looking for them last year, but couldn't remember what they were called.  Then I found them again!  All I could remember was that the tribe dressed all in white and they said they repeated the tribal stories everyday because they believed that the earth and universe would disappear if they didn't.

"Aluna", the newer Documentary of the two, is HERE in this link.  The Kogi's story was riveting in the first documentary, and now it's absolutely compelling.  We are running out of time here.

These Indians have known about dark energy, but for centuries.  This nebula (see above) reminds me of the description of the Goddess, Aluna.   The Kogi may not know the modern science of Physics, but they do know about the universe.  Their knowledge of it they could not have gotten anywhere but from where they say they did, from their ancestors who were entrusted with the Knowledge centuries ago.  I am grateful to them to have shared their story, over 36 years ago, with a then young documentary maker from the BBC.  He has gone back to them and followed them on a journey they undertook to try to change the way the Earth was being treated in the land both inside and outside their mountain home.  I'm not sure that the Pachomama Alliance has got anything to do with this group, so be aware.  Just Sayin...

Even Later Still!

Wishing you Kittens and Puppies!
