I know I've wondered about this, and I have a flickering mind of my own. ;o)
Recently a friend was also wondering how students she talked to did not know something so fundamental as why Washington DC is the Capitol.
If you, as an older adult, would like to know why so many upper grade students don't know many of the fundamental facts that you, yourself, know about US or World history, or other basic things - like where Borneo is, for instance - this book, The Flickering Mind, might help explain it.
