Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser. Here we will steal all types of memes from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent memes. You may have heard of the expression, “honor amongst thieves”. In that age-old tradition, we also have our rules. First, we always credit the blog that we stole it from and we will “fess up” to the blog owner where we stole the meme. We also provide a link to the victim's post. (It's our way of saying "Thanks!") We do sometimes edit the original meme, usually to make it more relevant to our global players, to challenge our players, sometimes to select that meme's best questions, or simply to make it less repetitive from either this new meme or recently asked questions from a prior featured meme.
Let's go!!!

Book Survey!
1:Favorite children's book Mysterious Island, by Jules Verne. I was a war baby who learned to read at 3. After that my parents had a separation of from 6 to 8 months. Because of this, I couldn't get a library card until I was four so I picked my own books or read comic books my aunts collected. I loved the comics, too!
2:The last book you've read Amy Tan, a re-read of The Opposite of Fate
3:Books on your "to read" list Princess Bride
4:Top 5 authors I haven't got only five, and there are too many to list! Molly Ivans is one,
5:Favorite genres Mystery, Economics, Science, Science fiction, Religion, Political, Biography, Memoirs.
6:A book that has made you extremely mad Confessions of an Economic Hitman
7:A book that you've cried over There's never just one, is there? Sad or angry tears? Sad tears: Following Atticus by Tom Ryan Angry tears? Nemesis, Blowback, and The Sorrows of Empire , all by Chalmers Johnson.
8:A book that made you laugh out loud Moo by Jane Smiley
9:Fiction or nonfiction? I read about 60% non fiction and 40% Fiction. I find it harder to find fiction that I like.
10:First book you've read by your favorite author I don't have a favorite author to pin a tail on, so to speak.
11:Best book-to-movie adaption Lord of the Rings. Or was it The Hobbit? hmmm? Oh! All the President's Men.
12:Do you read comics/manga? I don't like manga. I do like comic strips in the paper, and like to read some of them on the web, too.
13:Hardcovers or Paperbacks? I will always try first for hardbacks.
14:Do you buy books as soon as they come out or wait a while? I never know what's going on in the literary world, so I buy what flings itself into the path at my feet.
15:Do you buy books spontaneously without any prior knowledge of what happens in it? I will buy favorite author's books as soon as I can, or get them from the library if the wait isn't months and months.
16:Have you ever bought a book based on the cover alone? No. Mr. Z would want to strangle me.
17:Where do you usually buy your books? I used to buy them at some used book stores that are still going strong I'm happy to say. We also look for books at library sales, and online. I, me myself and..we look on line, if we are being completely truthful here.
18:Book that had a strong impact on you William Grieder's, Secrets of the Temple. Lord, I wanted to hire a hitman myself!
19:Historical or science fiction? Honestly, there is enough historical fiction in non-fictional book writing! Science Fiction is lots more fun. I choose SiFi.
20:Dystopian or Utopian? If someone comes up with a logical form of Utopian writing, I'll read it, otherwise, I pass...
21:Worst book-to-movie adaption? No idea
22:Book that should have a movie adaption? No idea. If it's a book good enough for me to like it, I'd be afraid of watching a movie based on it.

30:A book you absolutely hate Haven't read one yet, but I'm very good at vetting books. Oh, wait, Old Man and the Sea was forced on me when I was in high school. I still hate that book.
Oh--Molly Ivins! I do miss her. No one else even comes close to telling it exactly like it is without mincing ANY words! I still remember crying while reading her wonderful column after the death of Texas Representative Barbara Jordan. Molly Ivins was definitely one of a kind.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes--All The President's Men is a great movie--one of my favorites!
Dear, darling, crusty Molly; her death was a tragedy for the American people and for the truth. She was a Populist, like me, and resented being called liberal. But labels do stick when thrown with tobacco spit or cow pats. A favorite Mollyism: “I’m sorry to say (cancer) can kill you, but it doesn’t make you a better person,”
DeleteAll the President's Men a great film - Hal Holbrook as deep throat. hehe Stellar!
When you read Princess Bride, you'll come upon a passage where Goldman invites you to write away for a censored chapter. Do it! The address is real and you'll get a response. (Or maybe, in the new millennium editions, it's a link.)
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you for that newest tip, and for letting us know it was a book as well. I'll be sure to write for the chapter. :o) I better find that book fast though. Lot's of people read all our bookish posts. I'm a title thief too, and must have added 30 books to the new list!
DeleteMoo! That was a funny book.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't you consider Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit sort of Utopian?
I was just "forced" to read Billy Budd, by Melville. I sobbed and sobbed. I am a fool, maybe.
Indeed Moo! was so funny! I still smile when I think of it. Jane Smiley is a brilliant writer. About LOTR and the Hobbit, yes, but it was also a hero's story, and a fairytale, too. Utopia maybe, let me thinks about it. Melville's books are just Giant tearjerkers, depending on for what or whom you are rooting. hehe
DeleteThis is the second mention I've seen of The Princess Bride. I can't believe I had no idea it was a book. It's definitely on my must read list now.
ReplyDeleteMe either, and I can just see the queue forming for it at the Public Libraries across the Nation! Hopefully we can read it before 2016. hehe.
DeleteYay, another Lord of the Rings fan. I actually like the movies better than the book, which is high treason in some circles, I know.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, LOTR was a total DRAG to read compared to the Hobbit, but the Movie was Trés Spectacular! We can hang together for saying so. lol
