Saturday9: Beatles: "Fool On The Hill"

I'd like to apologize for the Quixotically sized text in this.  I've spent an hour trying to fix it.  I'm leaving it.

Saturday 9: Fool on the Hill (1967)
Unfamiliar with today's song? We can't help you. The YouTube copyright police have removed the Beatles' version.

1) Friday was April Fool's Day. Did you pull any pranks? Did anyone put anything over on you?
Mr. Z did. He sent me a spoof page from SparkPeople which I totally fell for.  We laughed ourselves sick.

2) The practice of playing tricks on one another on April 1 dates back at least to the 14th century and Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales includes a mention of it. Geoffrey Chaucer has been called England's greatest poet. Quote a bit of poetry for us. (It doesn't have to be English, or great.)

"Though you, my Lady Queen, are fair 'tis true,

Snow White, now, is far fairer than you."

3) Beatle Paul is a huge Elvis fan and is happy to own the bass that was played on Elvis' 1954 recording of "That's All Right, Mama." Tell us about one of your prized possessions.  (updated to be correct)
Actually I have several items made over the years by my children, and all are prized possessions. I'll name four:  There's a little Sari-clad Indian doll, holding a platter or rice which was made by Elle; a small horse made in clay by Bee; a pinch pot filled with pipe cleaner flowers that Elle made; two green glazed pinched slab dishes from Jimmy, and a ceramic wind-chime from Gee.  Absolutely love these things.

4) In contrast to his easygoing persona, Sir Paul has been described by former band mate Ringo Starr as strong willed and "determined to get his own way." Do you consider yourself strong willed and determined? Or are you more easy going?
I believe that about Paul.
I was only willful while trying to raise my daughters and in not wanting to, as one of the rock hound women succinctly phrased it, " raise one of the next generation of criminals."
5) The Beatles once bought a Greek island, planning to live and record there, but sold it after a few months because it started to seem like a bad, expensive idea. Tell us about a purchase that gave you buyer's remorse.
A little Gulbransen upright piano.  But it all turned out very well indeed.  It was a wonderful piano.

6) Legend has it that the Beatles officially broke up in Disney World. John Lennon was staying at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort when he received and signed the court papers that dissolved the group. Have you ever conducted business while on vacation?

No.

7) George Harrison loved puttering around in the garden and dedicated his autobiography to "gardeners everywhere." Do you have a green thumb?
Yes, and I inherited it from Mother and her mother.

8) Ringo regrets not having saved more Beatles memorabilia, which he realizes now would be worth a fortune. Are you a pack rat?

No.  I actually hate messes so I'm selling off a ton of junk from my craft business days.  I do still collect things from nature that seem beautiful to me.  And sock yarn of course.  ;-)

9) Random question: Which do you prefer, Girl Scout cookies or Boy Scout popcorn?

I used to buy Girl Scout cookies because they were delicious, and my adorable nieces were selling them.  I really like only non-GMO, organic popcorn.  If the Boy Scouts sold that, I'd buy it.

  1. I have that font problem sometimes with the Sunday Stealing meme and I've found that if I copy it into a Word doc, I can easily manipulate it there and paste it back into blogger.

Your description of your prized possessions made me smile.

    1. HI Gal. :o) Actually I always do that, maybe you gave me a clue, but I'm beginning to think that the BIG computer is the only one that can handle this job. Never again will I use the smaller things. This one was already shut off and it was almost midnight already when it became apparent that nothing they could do would ever match the Desktop's skills.

Children's handmade gifts are really a treasure. So Sweet and from the heart.

  2. After my mother passed away I found all my old Valentine cards that I made for her in elementary school.

    1. That is so sweet, Diana. A Mother rarely will toss anything their child has created. She'll hang on to those things util the bitter end. :o)

  3. I get the font problem too and usually solve it like "The Gal" does. Last time I couldn't fix it for the life of me. Maddening!
    Love your "strong willed" reason.

    1. Hi Kimberly, I just tried again to fix it while using the Desktop. No dice! There's code in it now, with all the monkeying about, so next time, it's the BIG GUN!
About strong willed... hehe Well, I'd seen first hand what a peer group can do to a teen in my sister, so I was determined to keep our own kids out of that big ugly trap. Complacent parents never help, either. My kids, I'm sure, saw me as an iron willed Nazi, and two of them told me how "cool" one of the worst mothers was. That was the one who painted her house nude, with a flower wreath in her hair. I couldn't compete for that level of cool. I was plainly out of my depth.

  4. I have a few of those 'prized possessions' as well. It is hard to part with them

    1. Ah, another keeper. I'm sure I would grab them first in a house fire!

  5. When I have the "font" problem (I have them with both S9 and SS sometimes), I use Notepad, not Word. Notepad knocks out all the unnecessary html. Then I copy and paste it back. I think that works better than using Word. Give it a go.

  6. Oh thank you thank you! I will see where Notepad is hiding and use it because I'm having trouble with all the memes now. I will, as you say, "Give it a go". This has had me tearing my hair out. I just threw away one of those tearing hair out GIFs attempting to get the upper hand on the hard disc space. darn!
