Music Monday: Allison Krauss sings Down to the River to Pray; Soggy Bottom Boys, "Man of Constant Sorrow"

This is such a beautiful song, a folk song from the times of slavery....

And this is just insanely good and FUN!

I really LOVE Old Timey Music.  This last is my grandmother's sort of music,  My grandmother was a McCoy, and this genre and ballads is her kind of music.  I think she stole my grandfather's heart with her singing.

It is a singing heritage that I didn't get to pass on to my daughters, but wish I had.  It just makes my heart dance whenever I hear this folk music from the Southern Mountains.  So many things got in the way...

My daughter plays this and Irish music on fiddle.  She plays the banjo as well.  So, that is great, too.  I think she's just too shy to sing.

Hope you enjoy these two tunes.  Tap your toes to the last.  Go out tapping your toes to the tunes.
Have a Happy week!

    1. Thank you, shortybear. And I'm glad you liked them. I'm always looking for more of these tunes, because they bring back memories of my grandparents, and singing with all my cousins and with Grandpa playing guitar.

  2. I love both videos! I'm in awe that your daughter is so musically inclined.

    I wrote a post for you: http://www.kwizgiver.com/2016/04/dont-be-fooled.html

    1. Thanks for the shout out, and Maggie is just darling! She looks very pert and lively, but spoiled, never! Heehee. Wolife's quite spoiled, too, and is always whining to be petted or cuddled. If he thinks we are going out, he dances around our feet and begs to go. He's very vocal!
I'm in awe of our banjo/ tin whistle/ fiddle playing daughter, too. She has made music a big part of her life, and carried on a legacy from both of my grandparents and great grandparents. Well, all but the singing.

  3. Could only watch the first, but gosh it is nice. Thanks for sharing. I love old timey music too, from Woody Guthrie to Mahalia Jackson, there is just so much good stuff out there.

Having trouble commenting on older posts, btw. Have you disabled that on purpose?
Big bear hugs to you :-)

    1. Hi Karen. Glad you could see at least one of them. The foggy bottom boys might have some sort of international block that I couldn't see, but they're be crazy to do that.
I have comment mods for posts over 15 days old, so that I'll see them and reply. Hope that's not blocking anything. I just checked spam, too. Nadia.
Thanks for those bear hugs. I'll pass some on to Mz. Z who is in need of them, too. He's very silent. That's just how men roll, I guess.
      Big BEAR HUGS, back!!!
