About butterflies...

I'm answering Colleen's reply here in this post.  But it's for nature gardeners everywhere.

We live near a nature preserve which is a crossroads between the coast and the dry lands to the east, so we get a lot of butterflies.
We hope to get more with the four new butterfly bushes (buddlieas) and some first year salvias.  When we go north east a mile we see Red admirals, Dianas, and many others.  California Painted  Lady butterflies come in droves where we do live.  It gladdens the heart.  Wish you had more.

We also see Dainty Sulfurs, Anise Swallowtails, Two tailed Swallowtails, Black Swallowtails, and a few others which periodically visited our garden, and we try to let anise and mallow grow if it comes up.  We feel that we have to do something for these beautiful creatures.

This page is gorgeously done.

It shows caterpillars, and host plants, too.

This is the NAT page for San Diego County butterflies 🦋

Enjoy the beautiful and protect it with your own garden.  San Diego is proving that it can be done.
