Saturday 9: Silent Night.. Elvis

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here

Blog Owner's Note: Wow, Elvis was a really nice looking guy....  😍

If you'd like to play along in this MEME, go HERE

1) How well do you know "Silent Night?" Without looking up the lyrics, could you sing along with Elvis?
I can sing it.  At least two verses.

2) The Christmas with Elvis album hit the stores in October 1957. Were you already preparing for Christmas back in October?
No, Christmas just isn't too much of a big deal to me anymore though there are things about it that I still like.  I like wishing people a Merry Christmas, and I like Christmas Eve.

3) Clearly Elvis liked a flocked white Christmas tree. Is your tree flocked, aluminum or pine green? Real or artificial? Or do you skip the whole tree thing altogether?
We have a green and also a white Christmas tree and sometimes we put them up late if someone's going to come over.  Mr.Z lit the front yard up though, and it's quite pretty.

4) Back in the late 1950s, Elvis left his hair its natural brown color. In the 1960s he began having it dyed black. Do you have a salon appointment scheduled between now and year end?
No.  I'll wash my long hair and just twist it up.  I want a bun like Chinese grandmothers but my hair quit growing long.

5) Have you ever peeked, looking for a Christmas gift you know is hidden for you somewhere in the house?
No.  I liked to be as surprised as any little kid who knows Santa's on his way....

6)  Which do you prefer, candy canes or gingerbread?
I'd rather have gingerbread, especially home made stuff.  It's so good!

7) Is anyone receiving a home made or do-it-yourself gift from you this year?
Nope, Mr.Z now makes Christmas fudge for his family, something I used to do.  Now I can enjoy eating this treat without having to make it.  😊

8) Do you wrap holiday gifts in paper, or do you take the gift bag route?
Mostly we do little gift bags.  I used to love Christmas and did it over the top.  Now it just seems that it has no real importance except to keep American businesses in the black.  I miss the old fashioned things that are still around in some places. 🌲

9) This time of year is big for charitable fundraising. Here's your chance to plug a cause or organization that's near and dear to you.
Women for Women.  The link is in the side bar over Yonder   *points*
Women are walked on all over in this world.  I love this organization because it's about Women helping Women.  And, of course, the Humane Society.  And.... at least a dozen other ORGs but let's just keep this simple.

Well Kids....

  1. How long does your hair grow? Mine, I'm afraid, grows an inch or two past my shoulders and that is IT. I've never been able to coax it to grow longer. Stupid hair. Meanwhile, I married a guy and made children who could have hair the length of the distance between here and our Moon... Anyway. Have a great weekend!

    1. Our kids have awesome hair! My hair could grow almost to my waist, and could curl into ringlets after I took a swim in the ocean. You see, my mother’s family grew hair like Crystal Gail’s!

  2. I've had a hard time getting into the spirit this year, too. I don't know what the problem is. Maybe it's listening to the Bully in Chief pooh-poohing institutions like the FBI, the CIA and the press. It might do me some good to turn away from the news for a while. But it feels like my responsibility as a grown up to keep up with things, you know?

Now Mr. Z! He's got the spirit, doesn't he? The lights! The fudge!

    1. Oooh time for a mini rant!
Let's face it. Wall Street now has it's fat arse in the White House and so the people are screwed. So, ya, I'd say it's partly the Bully-in-Chief thing. And yes, it IS our responsibility to fight for our government, it is after all civil servants at war with ALL of their Government "underlings"i.e., civil servants. And vicious war it is, too. But they are ALL civil servants! That OWB spouting forth is one, and every other one all down the line. They serve at our sufferance. Lest they forget. This is not Russia!
The bustards (spell checker thinks that should be spelled differently. It is to laugh) Anyway. the bustards are doing their best to GUT every agency in the people's government on their way to building Oligarchic control of ALL the building blocks in the "playroom". Yes, Mr.Z is much more sane than I am. I want to snatch them all bald!

  3. I haven't had much Christmas spirit in the last few years, either. Probably related to our strained relationship with our son and his wife, not being overly close to his children, and the fact that his wife hated all things Christmas and wouldn't allow the kids to have the fun of Santa. But this year finds us getting along better than I ever dreamed possible, some change of heart allows their children to participate in the fun things of Christmas, and now we've added our daughter's son to the mix, too. It is so much fun to see Christmas through the kids' eyes and try to add to the magic for them. Having my dog pass on Dec. 4 threatened to steal my new found joy, but I refused to let it. Anyway.....quiet Christmases have their charm, too, and I do get what you mean about missing the older, more traditional things and family gatherings. I've heard many people say they have been feeling especially nostalgic this year.

    1. Sorry to hear about your doggie. I know it's hard to give them up. My daughter once said that they live a long time, but not long enough...
I like the really old traditions, like carolers, which we had a few years here when a teacher down the street organized it. She was so cool. Glad things are going better for the Grandkids. It's terrific to have little cousins. I sure loved all of mine! Merry Christmas, Stacy!

  4. I'm not that much into Christmas either.....only put up the tree this year...and that I didn't even want to... the hubs wanted it up. He's going to get his way this years, as I usually take the tree down the day after, but I will be too busy getting things ready for me to leave the next day for a Florida vacation with my youngest...so he can enjoy the tree being up until Jan. 6th then that sucker is going to be put away for another year!! LOL Have a great Saturday!

    1. Aww. Well, I'm glad that you let him put up the Christmas tree. I loved Christmas so much that I left the tree up until April one year! It just was a gloomy and (thankfully) rainy, winter, and I need the cheery lights. I guess we'll put one up before Christmas. Enjoy that vacation in the Florida sun!

    1. Oh yes. Age has something to do with it. It is the season of giving but this sucker is giving me the blues! LOL
It's the delight in the eyes of children that I miss the most. It's a hard time for a lot of people. I might go look at the Christmas lights, and have agreed to get a corner cleared out( the one with my spinning wheel in it) so the tree can go up. Merry Merry!

  6. I'm looking forward to our traditional family sing-a-long next Wednesday. We gather around the piano and sing and enjoy my father's decorations! That puts a smile in my heart.

    1. Your sing-a-long sounds like a lovely tradition. Hope you have a lovely time, and a very Merry Christmas! If the sing-a-long puts a smile in your heart, I'm sure that you all feel it, too.
P.S.I tried to post some ASCII art but it was a major fail...

  7. You remind me of when I talk to one of my friends about Christmas. This time of the year seems to remind us that we are getting another year older and that snow is on the horizon.

    1. Ok, that didn't work... lol I didn't turn on the numberpad. *slaps forehead*
It's a little hard to get into this Snowy holiday in winterless SoCal, but I have some friends in Australia who celebrate it in summer! It's roasting hot out there in that case. We go look at lights and lizard me has to wear a down jacket, and a woolly hat.

  8. Oh my Zippi, I am sending you a Christmas hug, long distance delivery, that I hope you feel all around you at the moment I write this. May you find some peace and contentment in these long nights - spring is not so far off now.

    1. I'm sure I felt that, CountryDew. Thank you for that hug! It probably motivated me to get out of bed and turn on the computer. I'll be by later to visit everyone. I'm trying my best to get an area cleared for the tree. Big Hugs Back! Merry Merry!
