1) Ricky Martin sings that he and the girl dance in the rain. Do you feel like dancing this morning? I can only dance in my head now, but I do love to dance.

2) The lyrics tell us the girl prefers champagne. When did you last enjoy a glass of the bubbly? That would be on New Year's Eve.
 
3) When Ricky first heard "Livin' La Vida Loca," he imagined  the subject of the song was a "Bond girl," the glamorous love interest of James Bond in the movies. Since 1962, there have been more than 20 Bond films. Have you seen any/many of them? Do you have a favorite Bond? Yes, I do have a favorite.  I like Daniel Craig the best.  He seems much more like a true "hitman/secret agent" sort of guy than say, Pierce Brosnan or David Niven.
 
4) Ricky tells interviewers that when he was very young, he'd sing in the family kitchen, pretending a wooden spoon was his microphone. Crazy Sam admits to lip synching into a black Magic Marker. When you gave imaginary concerts, what did you use as a microphone? I just sang along with the top forties and all my albums while doing my housework. I never gave impromptu concerts.  But I sang a LOT!  It was very fun! Once, at a rock hound get together, a guitar player and I did duets. That was fun.

5) Ricky began working at the tender age of 9, performing in commercials. How old were you when you received your first paycheck?  I was 11or 12. My brother and I did what's called "Pick up" work at job sites. It means we cleaned up the site and swept away sawdust after the walls were up.  We didn't actually get a check, but a dollar an hour. We also nailed the runner board onto the walls after they were set up and the top plate was on.  Its a board that guides the dry wallers to leave space for the flooring.  Fun work for a little kid, actually.

6) Ricky does yoga to stay in shape. Have you ever tried yoga? I did Yoga faithfully for about 30 years. Then I stopped because of injuries to my wrist and my leg. I learned from the show, "Lillias, Yoga and You".  She was my one and only teacher.

7) Ricky is of primarily Spanish descent, with a little French mixed in. When you think of French cuisine, what comes to mind? Homemade cheeses.  And a few other things.  Like a billion other people on the planet, I watched Julia Child.  French Onion Soup is spectacular!
 
8) Ricky once had his own restaurant, Casa Salsa, in Miami Beach. Have you ever worked in food service?  Not in a restaurant setting.  I worked at a Dairy Queen to get money to buy my first guitar in the 60's.
 
9) Random question: What is your best quality?  I guess it's that I can keep a secret. I've learned to keep my firmly mouth shut about many things.

We're spotlighting this legendary concert because  Bev from Sunday Stealing loves Judy Garland. This week's Saturday 9 is a "thank you," one meme-mistress to another, in gratitude for Bev's willingness to pick up Bud's meme and keep it going.


Song #1: "When You're Smiling." What made you smile this week?   
Mostly it was my little gang of Monster killers in our on line game.

Song #2: "Almost Like Being in Love." We've all had many crushes, but love is rare. How many times have you fallen in love?
T'was Once Upon a Time.. T'was in Days of Yore... (the 1960's) We danced and talked the whole evening.  Then a Troll knocked on the host's door and broke the spell.  But, the Princess was able to escape the Troll not more than two months later, and she and her Knight in Shining Armor lived happily ever after.  The End.  I'm sure the Fairy Godmother was well pleased. 
 
Song #3: "This Can't Be Love." This Rodgers and Hart song was introduced in the play, The Boys from Syracuse. Syracuse is the county seat of Onondaga County, NY. What county do you hail from?
Well, Los Angeles if you don't count in the nasty Nazi named Hitler who called my paternal unit far, far away, never to be seen again... I wish!  😒  Mother's parents asked her to come home to have the bebé at their house.  Not liking her father's snobby sisters all that much, Mother complied.  We all came back to California two years later, when a German bomb blew Psycho dad's unit up and he came home for re-hab. 
 
Song #4: "Do It Again." What's something you'd do again, if only you had the time or money? (A book you'd like to reread, a recipe or pattern you'd like to make again, a vacation destination you'd like to revisit, etc.)
I would like to go back to Colorado.  Take a raft trip down the rapids of the Arkansas River.  I'd also like to sew up clothes for me, and especially some marvelous Moroccan style caftans like I made for my sister and myself back in the day. 

Song #5: "You Go to My Head." Judy forgets the lyrics, but gamely keeps going. Tell us about a recent moment when you chose to keep going, no matter what.
When I was waiting for the emergency doctors to re-set my shoulder.  I told myself I'd been through LOTS worse than this in life and could just keep putting one foot in front of the other and walk right on out of this thing.
 
Song #6: "Alone Together." Is anyone there with you as you answer these questions, or are you alone?
My hubby and our little sidekick Wolfie, just back from the late night walkies.

Song #7: "Who Cares?" This song was written by brothers George and Ira Gershwin. They had a lesser known brother, stockbroker Arthur. Are you more creative and artistic, like George and Ira? Or more analytical and methodical, like Arthur?
I'm a methodical, analytical Artist.  I could have been a draftsman like my brother but wanted to take a four year degree in field Geology to work in the field.  This was back in the 60's when a Bachelor's Degree actually meant something.
 
Song #8: "Puttin' on the Ritz." Judy sings that The Ritz is the place in New York "where fashion sits." If we wanted to see everyone "all gussied up" in your town, where would we go?
Every once in awhile, I think about going to an Opera.  We do have a fine Opera season in San Diego, or at least we did have.  Who knows what's been going on lately. lol
 
Song #9: "How Long Has This Been Going On?" Judy sings about discovering how glorious romance can be. Have you made any new discoveries lately? It doesn't have to be as groundbreaking as Judy's. A new podcast or a faster route to work counts, too.
I have been reading a lot of EYE opening Shlock about the under the radar stuff that has gotten us where we are today as a country.  Not Nice!  Both sides of the Aisle are complicit.
 
If you're wondering why there are no Garland hits here ... these are her first numbers in the order that she performed them. She saved her better-known songs for the end of concert. Who am I to second guess Judy?

1) With whom did you most recently have a "heart-to-heart" talk?  My hubby.  We do that a lot lately.  For on thing, we have a very agéd Pup. 

2) When this song was on the charts, audiences were tuning in to a TV show called Hart to Hart. Are you familiar with it?   
No, sorry, Gal.

3) In the music video, Kenny Loggins plays an illustrator. It’s said that the hardest thing to draw is a straight line, because all the joints in your hand have to work together in sync. Can you draw a straight line, without the aid of a ruler or a straight edge?  
Once upon a time, "yes" but now.  I just tried four times...
Afraid I'm out of practice.  I can't even walk a straight line now either. *wink*
 
4) This video also prominently features teddy bears. A 2018 article in the NY Post estimates that 4 in 10 adults has a plush toy of his/her own. Are you one of the 40%?   
I have a teddy bear collection, and one pig.  The  little twins thought it was a teddy bear.  They were little.  😊😊

5) Kenny Loggins performed in a tribute to Aretha Franklin at Carnegie Hall. Do you have a favorite Aretha Franklin song?  
I like all her gospel songs and "Bridge over Troubled Waters" is my current favorite. 


 
6) Kenny cowrote this song with Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers. You can also hear Michael on the background vocals. Do you have a favorite Doobie Brothers song?  The Doobie's are my favorite group.  My favorite song is almost a theme song for my life.


 
7) The third cowriter is David Foster. 1982 was a big year for Foster, since Chicago had a big hit with another of his compositions, “Hard to Say I’m Sorry.” Do you have a favorite Chicago song?  This one:


8) In 1982, when this song was popular, Tylenol capsules laced with cyanide killed 7 people in Chicago. In response, tamper-proof packaging was introduced. What’s the last thing you opened that required you break a seal? 
It was a bottle of vitamins.  
 
9) Random question – You’re having a party. Which guest annoys you most: the one who arrives 20 minutes early, or the one who shows up 20 minutes late?  
I'm sure I wouldn't notice the late comer.  But the early bird, I would put to work! lol  No reason to be annoyed.  Just hand them a job!

Saturday 9: The Addams family...

1) One of TV's spookiest families was inspired by a series of New Yorker cartoons. What's the last magazine you flipped through? A Sunset Magazine at the Clinic. I may subscribe again.

2) The Addams' butler, Lurch, was originally conceived as a mute. But then actor Ted Cassidy ad libbed the line, "You rang?" and Lurch had a voice, and a catchphrase. Can you think of another catchphrase connected to a TV character?  Sorry, no.  When I read other blogs I'll likely remember but not right off the top of my head.  I haven't watched network TV for Decades.

3) Now here's the most important question of the week: Do you prefer The Addams Family or The Munsters?  Sorry again.  I've never watched the Munsters, and the only way I know the Addams' Family is through the movies which we have seen numerous times.  So, I'd have to say, "The Addam's Family".

4) What's the scariest movie you've ever seen?  That would be "Pitch Black".  And we are watching it again tonight.  It's horrendously scary!



5) Thursday was Halloween. What goodies did you give the trick or treaters?
We got one of those big bags of tiny candy bars at Costco.  We started out with two apiece, quickly going up to three, and when the big kids (I swear they were BIG ones.. and So Jolly!) came around late, well, I wanted to give them handfuls but stuck to three.  I love to see the big kids trick or treating but you could tell these guys and gals (twenty somethings) were doing this on a lark.. Best costumes of course.  Lots of fun.

6) Are you attending/have you attended any Halloween parties this year?
No, we are pretty well past that.. lol

7) Did you carve a jack o'lantern this year?
No, I just set out my sort of neat stick ones that are lighted, and left it at that.  Next year I will put the little carved ones in the windows again.  That will be to celebrate nearly 60 years of being The Candy Wrangler.  

8) Do you eat candy corn all year around ... only at Halloween ... or never?
I don't eat it anymore at all.  But back in the day, I did buy extra to have to decorate cookies at various time.  

9) In 1964, when The Addams Family premiered, one of the most popular store-bought Halloween costumes was Bambi. It came with a plastic mask held on by a thin elastic band. Tell us about a memorable Halloween costume from your childhood.
My mother made me a witch's costume that I wore for several years.  I loved that hat, and even have an adult's version but quit wearing it because it scared the really little kids.  I might get a pair of those jiggly antenna - those are pretty cute.

1) This song is about a girl who ditched her high heels so she wouldn't be taller than her beau. Tell us about the most recent addition to your footwear wardrobe. Do you need to go shoe shopping?  I might buy some new Sketchers but not sure.  I like the wild ones...  I just wish they came in my size!

2) She sings that she misses the sheets on the bed she made herself. As you answer these questions, is your bed made?  No, because it's 4 AM Friday, and too early.  Someone's still in it.

4) This week's featured artist, Kelsea Ballerini, got married on Christmas Day in 2017. That makes their anniversary easy to remember. Are you celebrating any birthdays or anniversaries this month?  Just a Wedding anniversary.

5) Kelsea has been quoted as saying, "Perfect doesn't exist." She worries that we exhaust ourselves "trying to be something that isn't real." How about you? Do you believe your best is good enough? Or do you strive for perfection?  I am an primarily an artist and a craftsman.  So, I strive for perfection.  It's probably an illness. lol  Certified Mania even.  

 
6) One of Kelsea's tattoos is a square inside of a circle, aka a square peg in a round hole, on her left wrist. She says it's there to remind her that it's OK to "not fit the mold of what normal might be." Tell us about a time where you felt like a square peg in a round hole.  I feel that way all the time.  That's OK, isn't it? 

7) In 2018, when this song was popular, French President Emmanuel Macron lowered fuel taxes. When it's time to fill your tank, do you shop around for the best price?  Always, and you do know, don't you,  there is an app for that?

 8) Also in 2018, Luxembourg made all public transportation free. When is the last time you rode a bus or train?  When I was still volunteering at the UN gift shop in Balboa Park, several years ago, I rode the city bus.  The buses in our massively spread out city are very inconvenient.  We also have the trolley, but it's seats are very uncomfortable, and so the bus fleet still gets my vote.  Thank the vandals for the hard seats...

9) Random question: When did you most recently say, either out loud or to yourself, "I haven't got a thing to wear?"  What I usually say is, "Too bad; I'm wearing this and if they don't like it, they can lump it."  I've left the "World of Fashion" well behind me.

1) This song is about a guy who, out of the blue, phones an ex. Have you ever spontaneously phoned or emailed a former lover? Has an ex ever reached out to you?  I  never had Exes. 

2) He suggests walking through the park, taking a drive along the beach, or watching TV. Do any of those suggestions appeal to you right now?  Actually all those things appeal to me, Now, since it's cooled down considerably from the summer temps, it would be fun to go to the beach, and also go to a park.  Watching something on Netflex always is appealing.

3) "England Dan" got his nickname because he was a passionate Beatles fan and would affect a British accent when he talked about his favorite group. Are you good at imitating accents?  I've always been a good mimic.  It's probably the "singing thing" that aided it.  I love Jimmy Carter, and my sister still remembers me mimicking his sweet Georgia accent.  I'm out of practice but I can do a polish accent, too, and a British one.  

4) Dan met John Coley when they were high school classmates in Dallas. When they were still kids, they agreed that "John Ford Coley" would be a better stage name. Think back to your high school days. Which of your friends daydreamed along with you?  Daydreaming hmmm?  I think it was a few of the senior scouts.  We were all on the college track, so we'd muse about that.  I always wanted to go to Berkeley and probably should have!  Instead I chose UCLA as it was closer to home.  Bad idea.  Talk about musing. I guess it never ends, does it?

Utility.  I buy prescription ones now and as cheaply as possible.  They fall off a person's face, and sometimes they are not retrievable.  I will leave all that to your imaginations but I will say this:  Don't wear then into a Campground  outhouse.

8) The most popular movie of 1975 was Jaws. Have you seen it? I've seen a spoof of it but not the real movie.  I wanted to be able to go back into the water you see.  *wink*

9) Random question: Excluding anyone related to you by blood or marriage, what man are you closest to?  There's just no one left on Earth; so many have passed away.  You begin to feel your age when you have to admit this.  Most of the Rockhounds were ten years older and so were the neighbors. I had a lot of good, close, "guy" friends in these two groups.

1) This song is about a man whose father advises him to live life to the fullest, to become "the friend you'd like to have." How about you? Are you the friend you'd like to have?
That's something that's really tough for me to quantify.  I'm probably too introverted to always be there for someone else, which is a quality that is supposed to be one of the finest ones in a friendship.  So, I reckon the answer to this is ultimately, No.  I've had some great friends, and think of anyone I meet anywhere as having the potential to be a friend.  idk... I rarely meet someone I don't like for some reason or other.  But they are out there, "Rarely" not meaning, "Never"...
 
2) The song lists several "bucket list" items: skydiving, mountain climbing, riding a bull. Have you done any of those things? Would you like to? 
I haven't done any of those things.  And, no.  The things I want to do don't involve risking bones or death.

3) In the music video, Tim McGraw is wearing a white button-down shirt, blue jeans and a cowboy hat. Which of those items is in your wardrobe?
Blue Jeans, I have a thick sort of panama hat that is the shape of a Gaucho Hat.  Does it count?
 
4) He wears a cowboy hat because he is embarrassed by the size of his forehead. When you wear a hat, are you more likely doing it for style, like Tim, or for protection from the elements?

5) McGraw's biological father was Tug McGraw, pitcher for the Mets and Phillies. How did your baseball team do this season?
I have no idea at all.  Padre Fever is Behind me these days. 
 
6) Tim McGraw and wife Faith Hill live just outside of Nashville. They enjoy inviting friends over to sit around a bonfire, drinking beer and playing guitars. Tell us about the most recent gettogether you had with friends.
The Rockhounds get together at Christmas and that's the last one we got to.
 
7) Tim likes his tattoos. He admits his silliest one -- a leprechaun wearing a cowboy hat -- was acquired during a night of drinking. Do you have a tattoo? If so, are you glad you have it and would you get it again?
No tats.  Sorry to be so dull.
 
8) In 2003, when this song was popular, the supersonic Concord took its last flight. When did you most recently board a plane? What was your destination?
It was so long ago that I can't remember it.  I think it was when I flew back down to San Diego after visiting my girls when their daddy was out of town.
 
9) Random question: When did you last walk around the house naked?
Two weeks and two months ago.  I stupidly tried to walk through the kitchen to get something from the dining room table after showering.  My feet were barely wet but down I went.  Big bruise on my temple, Broken, dislocated (humerus) shoulder and broken elbow.  I'm still healing. 
 

This Poor Gal! I know how she feels.  I'd give a lot to just have those 30 seconds back so as to rethink it all before I nearly killed myself. lol

1) This song is from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder. The movie was remade as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. Which Wonka did you prefer?   My kids liked the first movie.  I've not seen the re-make.  It wasn't something that interested me, sorry Willy! 

2) In the movie, this song is sung by Bill, the candy store shopkeeper. Think about the last counter person you dealt with. We know that he or she likely didn't break into song, but did you two engage in conversation?  My latest encounters with "Counter Folk" are the medical kind, and they have been polite and good ones.  But, alas, nobody was singing ... lol  

I have sung in an Operating room, though.  Before an Angiogram.  The Acoustics were AWESOME in that place.  I sang "Que Sera Sera".  Something in the piped in music had that certain harmonic vibe to it that blended with that song.  No singer could resist those acoustics!  Fun stuff!  But, this surgeon was not my surgeon.  Can you imagine a patient doctor duet?!



3) The lyrics tell us that The Candy Man can make the world taste good. What's the last thing you ate? Was it delicious, or just OK?  The last thing I ate was a little handful of macadamia nuts, and they were delicious!

4) The most popular recording of this song was by Sammy Davis,  Jr. Sammy was in a horrific car accident when he was 29 years old. His cheek and nose were broken and he lost an eye. That he survived at all left him reflective and after his hospitalization, he converted to Judaism. Do you still worship in the faith you were raised in?  No, but close.  Methodists and Quakers seem to migrate back and forth across the "Mason Dixon Line" of membership all the time.  A new, at the time, Quaker friend told me this. Lol..

5) Sammy was proud of the honorary college degrees because he received because never formally attended school. As a child, he performed on the road with his father and uncle. In addition to depriving him of an education, that lifestyle kept him from kids his own age. He would later describe his childhood as, "in a word, 'lonely.'" Give us a one-word description of your childhood.  Horrendous.

6) Because he spent so much of his youth on the road, living on buses, trains and hotel rooms, he loved eventually having his own kitchen and being able to cook his own meals. This weekend, will you spend much time in the kitchen?  No. I'm basically not allowed in the kitchen for awhile. 

7) Sammy enjoyed experimenting with clothes and jewelry. What about you? Do you consider yourself conservative in dress or are you fashion forward?  I was always Fashion forward.  I once made almost all my clothes, Jr. High through the age when we were "allowed" to wear pants (peddle pushers) in college - '60 -'63.  Where you in college in the time of  "Loco Parentus"?  I was.

Truth?  I'd probably just take a pill and sleep the WHOLE time, to be on the safe side.

1) "Ooh la la" is defined as an interjection said when you think someone or something is "surprising, unusual or attractive." Looking back over this week, did you come across anything that deserves an "ooh la la?" That would be my grand nieces!  Three!  There was a little girl there, too, but I didn't meet her.  She may be one of my grand nieces.  She is a pretty, little thing.

2) In this song, Britney Spears sings that she's eager to accompany you, even if you're not a millionaire. But let's say you suddenly become really rich. What's the first leisure trip you would take with your new funds? Who would you bring along?  I would buy a great big, new motor home, hire a driver so that Mr. Z could relax, and take our daughters and their friends anywhere they want to go to see.  And I would buy the Girls all houses to come back to!

3) Britney is eager to dance with you, even if you don't wear designer clothes. Let's say you need to add a blouse (or shirt) to your wardrobe. Where's your go-to for clothes shopping?
The Good Will store, and I'm not ashamed to say so.  I'm not a fancy person but I've always found the most amazingly beautiful things to wear there.  Not high fashion but shall we say FUN Fashion?
 
4) The video begins with Britney at the movies with her two young sons. Will you be seeing any family members this weekend? Not this weekend.  That was last weekend.   There were lots of Nieces, Nephews, and Grands.  All grown up and flown the nests....Well, I did see one youngster who is a grandniece but didn't get to meet her.  She's adorable and cute, though.  I think she was my grandniece.  And, if not, I'll adopt her anyway...

5) This is a theme from the movie Smurfs 2. A Smurf is a little blue creature who lives in a mushroom-shaped house in the forest. Assuming that your home is not shaped like a mushroom and isn't in the forest, how would you describe your abode? (Mansion, ranch house, farm house, high-rise, igloo ...)  It's supposed to be a Ranch house,  but it's just a little tract house that they gave a fancy name to.  I WISH I lived in a real Ranch House.  Because it would come with a RANCH attached to it, yes?  
Igloo.  I'd like one, too, please.  Temporary housing is just plain fun.

6) Britney admits to smoking and biting her nails. What bad habit do you wish you could break? Worry.  I'm a worrier.  I worry about everyone and everything.  I worry a lot about Wolfie but then he seems very content at the moment to just sleep in his favorite place, that is: jammed up against his lovely Papa. 

7) In 2013, when this song was popular, Pope Benedict resigned. Thinking over your working life, have you been more nervous on your first day of a job, or the last one?  I remember that Pope.  He left a HUGE tome for Pope Francis to read.  

The only job that made me nervous on the first day was as an operator at Bell Systems.  It was fun but it was a lot to learn.  My supervisor was an amazing Gal.  I really liked her.

8) Also in 2013, golfer Phil Mickelson won the British Open. When did you most recently golf? Maybe sometime in a past life, but I doubt it.  But there are a lot of Scots in my ancestry. So, that might be somewhere back there... the Golf Gene.  I do like pitch and putt and also Miniature Golf.  It's fun. 

9) Random question -- On what part of your body was the last itch you scratched?  My head.  It itches if the weather (air) dries out very much. I've yet to find a mild enough product for my delicate scalp. Lol.. Actually it's the Rhino Gene I carry, in addition to the Scot's one.  Rhino's like mud baths.  Hey, that's an idea!

Saturday 9: Memorial Day.. Yay!

Memorial Day is the federal holiday designated to honor American service people who died in battle. 

1) Memorial Day was introduced after the Civil War. Originally called Decoration Day, this is when memorials, as well as the graves of veterans, are to be decorated with flags and flowers on this day to show our appreciation. Is there a war memorial in your neighborhood?  In our city.  This is a Navy town after all.  There are two that I've seen and been to.  One is on Pt. Loma, a National Cemetery.  It overlooks the ocean in places, and is very peaceful.  And one is in Balboa Park, dedicated to the veterans of WWI.    I've been to both several times.  

2) Andrew Johnson, our 17th President, was in office the first time Memorial/Decoration Day  was celebrated. Have you ever met one of our 45 Presidents? 
No.  But, I almost went to see Richard Nixon, just for fun.. But darn their eyes, they moved that convention across the country!  I was SO ready to see him.  And maybe "give" him a pie. or maybe a tomato. 🍅 heehee  Now I don't give a hoot.  Assault with Fruit, 20 years in the Pen!

3) According to the AAA, more than 30 million Americans will hit the road this weekend and drive more than 50 miles. Will you be traveling far from home this weekend? 
This is a bad weekend to go ANYWHERE and so no...

4) Memorial Day kicks off the summer season. What's your favorite picnic food? 
Grandma's Potato salad.  She would be proud.

5) As you answer these questions, is there an air conditioner or fan on? 
No, it's been wonderfully cool and rainy for days!  But today I think we have an off day for rain, but it's only around 70°F today.  We are having an Amazingly wet May this year, thanks to God!

6) Though she's belting out one of America's best loved patriotic songs, Deanna Durbin was born in Canada. Is there anyone in your family or circle of friends who wasn't born in the USA?  Our niece's husband, who is a naturalized citizen.   And there are several of Mr. Z's old soccer buddies, and their families, who were Canadians, Brits, and Irish, and Lebanese. They are all probably citizens by now. 

7) No longer a household name, Ms. Durbin was once one of the biggest stars in the country. One of her most popular films was 1937's One Hundred Men and a Girl, which was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. Recommend a movie that you really like, but don't think many Saturday 9ers have seen.  "Finding Forester".  Rob Brown and Sean Connery.  It's an Excellent movie.  I'm hoping to find it someday, streaming somewhere that doesn't mean adding another pay channel.  Did you see what the BBC did to all of their stuff that they hadn't already sold?  grrrrr

8) Back in 1938, Deanna Durbin had her handprints cemented in front of the TCL Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd. Have you ever visited that Los Angeles tourist attraction?  My hand print is there.. I never told you?  ;o)  Once, when I was about 11, my aunts and cousins came out from Ohio, and we all went. It was called Grauman's Chinese Theater back then.  Maybe it still is?  Anyway, during picture taking there, I learned that showing ALL my teeth when I smiled was a very bad thing.  It, shall we say, brought out the Prussian heritage in me.  Pretty Scary!

9) Random question: What food did you hate as a child, but enjoy now?  This is going to be all backwards, as I didn't hate any food as a child.  

Coming up Poor, we ate anything that mother cooked.   Also, mother never grew, nor served, Black Eyed Peas -which I HATE with a passion!)  I never met them until I was fully adult.  It was HATE at first sight.  So, I will have to go with what I hate as an adult!  
For instance, besides those black eyed thingies, I can not stand a slab of salmon, baked, grilled, steamed or fried.. no way, though I still like fried salmon patties made by mixing green onions, egg and cracker crumbs with a can of salmon.  That "sort of " answers the question, yes?  My nightmare meal would be a slab of baked salmon on a bed of boiled black eyed peas.

 1) In this song Doris admits she's spoken to the stars, "the way dreamers often do." Do you often daydream?  Not too much anymore.  Real life has a way of throwing you under a bus if you do too much daydreaming.

2) What's the last secret you kept? (It doesn't have to be romantic.)
I'm crazy but not crazy enough to share it.
 
3) While "Secret Love" was one of Miss Day's best-selling records, and the song won an Oscar, she did not perform it at the Academy Awards Ceremony. She said she was just too nervous to sing it live before an international television audience and an auditorium full of entertainment professionals. When did you last suffer an attack of nerves?
Waiting for the diagnosis from my daughter's surgery.  I was trembling with dread and anxiety. 
 
4) Doris' well-publicized attack of Oscar stage fright was unexpected because she began her career as a band singer, performing before live audiences every night. But she reportedly did develop more phobias over the years, including a fear of flying. Is there anything that scares you now, as an adult, that didn't frighten you as a child?
 Politicians.  Well, you did ask.  They can be absolute liars, sneaky, sometimes cowards, and completely ruthless.  They ARE dangerous, and they are scary. 
 
5) Doris Day made 39 movies between 1948 and 1968. She said one of her favorite things about film making was working with costume designers on her wardrobe. Do you enjoy shopping for clothes?
When my sister was healthy, I used to love going out to lunch with her, and then on to the after Christmas sales.  We'd usually go to Burlington Coat factory as well as May Company's, and Bullock's Basement sales.  Anymore?  Meh!
 
6) Doris confessed that when she had to lose weight for a role, she gave up ice cream. If we checked your freezer, would we find any ice cream?
 Nope, and that's because I ate it all.  It had been in there for a couple of years but it still tasted good.  I think it's time to make more Italian Lime Ice Cream since we have limes. 

7) In 1985 she hosted a cable show called Doris Day's Best Friends. She used the show as a platform to promote pet adoptions and animal welfare. Most of the guests were  celebrity friends who reportedly donated their salaries for appearing on the show to Doris' pet foundation. Did you more recently ask a friend for a favor, or perform a favor for a friend?
I can consider Mr. Z as a friend, yes?  So the answer to your question is, "yes". and "yes".

8) For more than 20 years, Doris co-owned the Cypress Inn in Carmel, CA. The Inn expects to continue on without her, and maintain the pet-friendly policies she introduced. Have you ever traveled with your dog or cat?
I've never traveled with a cat except, when we were moving house, Pepper came along.  She moved with us 7 times.  She was a lovely little Calico kittah.  And Dogs?  They go everywhere we go.  Always have except two notable exceptions, Muttly and Tobie.  Tobie stayed home when we went on trips because she would eat anything - ANYTHING - and end up car sick.  Muttly was a nervous dog, and he would likely bite some random child who came up to him, as children do, who tried to pet him.  So, he stayed home.
 
9) Random question: What's the last thing you complained about?

1) The official video for this song was filmed on board the battleship USS Missouri. When is the last time you were on a boat or ship?  A few years ago. We took a rowboat out on Loche Loman Lake.

2) This song was written by Diane Warren. Ms. Warren has written love songs recorded by Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, LeAnn Rimes and more, yet she's never married and has really only had one serious romantic relationship. She acknowledges this makes her an unusual spokeswoman for the glory and pain of love. When you have a relationship problem, who do you go to for advice?  To be honest, I now just meditate on it. 

3) In this song, Cher wishes she could turn back time and have a different conversation with a former lover, changing what she said to him. Here at Saturday 9, we're not so ambitious with our time travel. We're only going back to yesterday. Is there anything you'd do differently?

Yes, I'd get more done.  I want to make an apple pie but I've had the apples from before my thumb went all Ninja/kamikaze on me, so those apples are still good but the nutritional levels must be in the basement.  But, it is, after all, a pie. Who actually cares whether it has any nutritional value?

4) In 1966, Cher and her then-husband Sonny sang at a private birthday party for Jacqueline Kennedy. At first, Cher didn't want to do it, thinking that performing to a small gathering would be awkward. But it turned out to be a wonderful opportunity for her. That night, she met Diana Vreeland, the editor of Vogue. Vreeland liked Cher's look so much she set up a photo shoot. Cher, who always loved experimenting with hair and makeup, enjoyed the shoot immensely. Tell us about a social gathering where you had an unexpectedly good time.

At my age, let's be honest, most of them are that way.

5) At that same party, Cher said she was surprised by how big Jackie's hands were. Do you like your hands?  I once did!  Now I think of them as Forces of Nature that can take my life away on a whim.  
But really, I do love my hands.  They have made it possible to have a painterly and artistic life, and they carry out my every wish for carpentry, gardening, sports, crafting and sewing and knitting, cooking, baking, and embroideries and all the other joys of life.

6) One night, before a performance in Detroit, Cher saw a little furry something under one of her tour buses. It was a kitten that that she named Mr. Big, hoping he would grow into the name. He did, and the tomcat was her constant companion for four years until he died of a congenital heart ailment. She has said that she will "never not miss him." Is there a furry companion who has a special place in your memories? 

I miss my kitties, mostly Pepper and Milo,  and the little rat named Rita who was really a darling.  I also miss my little red poodle, Jazzie.  He was adorable, small and very sick from the day we got him, but what a good boy!  Despite his troubles, he lived a very joyful life and for almost 13 years.

7) Cher recently appeared in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. It's the second movie based on the music of ABBA. What's your favorite ABBA song?  I've always liked this one.....



I guess because it has a catchy, kicky sound, which I like more than any of their sad stuff.  I used to dance to it....

8) In 1989 -- the year this song was popular -- Mattel released a series of special "Scarlett O'Hara" Barbie doll to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Gone with the Wind. Did you enjoy the classic movie? Have you read the book?  Tried to read the book, cast it aside.  Never saw the Movie.

Wow, I think I'm channeling Harriet!

1) JT sings that, when the world gets him down, he goes up on the roof to find peace. When you're "feeling tired and beat," what do you do to cheer yourself up?  Take a nap?  
Poke fun at the Pompous mind twisters trying to make the proverbial silk purse out of a sow's ear?  I know that is a bit mangled but, this modern "Roman Circus" is just asking to be lampooned.  Other than that, there's not anything I can do really.  I just get through the days with as much aplomb as can be mustered.  (Ha!  I almost typed mustard!)   

2) He sings that, at night, the stars put on a show for free. Are you economizing, or sticking to a budget?  It's a budget, per se,  but we don't write it all down.  We buy food, gas, and pay utilities and taxes, and donate to causes.  This is a sufficiency of all good things; it may also be a budget.
  
3) In addition to recording this song for his album, Flag, James Taylor surprised the song's composer, and his good friend. Carole King by performing it the night she received her Kennedy Center Honor (see link above). Tell us about a good turn a friend has done for you recently.   They gave me a warning about something to come, and apparently it's soon.

4) James Taylor and Carole King have been good friends for decades, but they have never been romantically involved. Do you have platonic friends of the opposite sex? Actually most of my friends have passed away, male and female, but I had a lot of good, male (and female) friends in the Rockhounds.  They were almost all ten to twenty years older than I am, and so it was sort of a "little sister" or daughterly thing.  Rock Hounds are some of the best folks, outside of Academia, in this world.  Come to think of it, some of them WERE academics.

5) James was born in the Boston hospital where his father worked as a resident physician. Are there any doctors or nurses in your family?  Three of my paternal cousins have doctorates but only one has a Medical degree.  I'm not sure if any are nurses.  One of my twin daughters was trained to be an LPN.  

6) When James was young, his family moved to Chapel Hill, NC. James has vivid memories of how beautiful the area was in all four seasons. What's your favorite time of year?  I like the Wet Season.  We have weather here that could be called, "The Dry" and "The Wet", as they do in Australia.  We don't really have much of a winter, though sometimes we get snow in our mountains.  So, to answer the question,  I like our Winter/Spring season the best.

7) In 1979, when this recording was popular, ESPN launched. Do you often watch that cable sports channel? Moi?  Buhahahahaha!

8)  Also in 1979, the Voyager spacecraft sent photos back to earth that revealed Jupiter's rings. Without looking it up, can you name all the planets in our solar system?  Yes.  I'm pretty down with the half a million (teasing) moons out there circling them, too.  Do you know Earth has two moons?  They are just afraid to tell us because they just detected it. After all that money and time!   ;o)

9) Random question: Our Saturday 9 Wizards give you a choice -- you can be 20 years old and gorgeous, 30 years old and brilliant, or 40 years old and rich. Which do you choose?  
These Saturday 9 Wizards really have a wicked witch side, too, don't they?  
I want it ALL!   I want to be forever young, rich, brilliant and Gorgeous.  Actually I really want to be a Guardian Angel who can spell any word in any language but that's not a choice, is it?

1) What are your plans for this Saturday morning?
I plan to eat breakfast.  And also, I'll do the crosswords with Mr. Z.

We spent Christmas Eve at our niece's house, with her sweet family and others.

3) The lyrics say, "we will remember long after Saturday's gone." What's something you've done recently that you predict you'll remember for a long time to come?
I'm fast approaching 77, so there isn't anything I'M going to remember for very long. lol

4) This song was the Oscar-nominated theme from the movie The Sterile Cuckoo. What's the first movie song that pops into your head?
"Fair Thee Well" ... it was used in "Fly Away Home".  That song haunts me...makes me tear up if ever I should hear it.  Mary Black sings it...It's actually a folk song....

5) In the movie, Liza Minnelli played Mary Ann Adams, an eccentric girl everyone called "Pookie." Have you ever been known by a memorable nickname? Who gave it to you?
My brother calls me LyniePoo.  This is because I think he delighted in calling our younger sister, CessiePoo.  My daughter Bee was once called Pookie...

6) Today's group began their career as The Grads. Recording artist/producer Herb Alpert liked their sound but hated their name. Alpert picked "sandpiper" at random out of the dictionary. Do you still have and use a bound dictionary? Or do you rely on the internet for word searches and spelling?
What's wrong with, The Grads"?  Corporate types, who can EVER understand why they do what they do.....Anyway... the question at hand...
I still use Dictionaries.  I want to know the etymology of words I use, and there's no better source than a dictionary.  But, more and more,  I find that I'll use internet auto correct which I feel is a frienemy.  Heehee....

7) The biggest news story of 1969, the year this song was popular, was one of the biggest news stories of all time. On July 20, Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the moon. Other than the moon landing, what's the most consequential event that you've seen in your lifetime. How do you feel it changed America, and the world?
The murder of John F. Kennedy.  It changed the course of our country and destroyed our reputation as a fair player in International Politics, not to put too fine a point on it.  The impact of losing his fine mind and dedication to the Country has stayed with us.

8)1969 was a big year for music festivals, with Atlanta, Toronto and Woodstock all holding famous fests. Have you visited Georgia, Ontario or New York (state)? 
Since I've been an adult, I haven't ventured past the edges of the Western States.  

9) Random question -- According to some plant enthusiasts, house plants do better when they're spoken to. Do you talk to your plants?

I've seen the experiments with plants, as many as have been released.  And, yes, I talk to them.  They have a consciousness we don't appreciate or even acknowledge.  I hope the next generations learn to appreciate the amazing flow of awareness that inhabits every life form. and which imbues everything that exists with awareness and spirit, if you will.  
Man is not the end all and be all of this Universe.  The Native Americans understood this, as do other so called "Primitives".  
I hope we westerners get as wise as we pride ourselves in being, some day.
