Saturday Nine:

Work Harder, Play Harder

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) We're celebrating the last holiday of summer by going country. Who is your favorite country music artist?  Hank Williams, always  Video  is ..... Down below this post....

2) Gretchen Wilson sings that on Tuesdays, she gets up before dawn. This morning, did you awaken on your own, or did you need an alarm clock?  I usually awaken around 4 am, unless I've been awake all night.

3) She tells us that she doesn't waste her time on manicures or spay tans. How about you? MOI?  Have you recently spent any money at the salon?   BUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

4) She sings that she's the first to clock in at work. Have you ever worked a job that required you to punch a time clock?  Yes, as a telephone operator I had to punch a time clock.

5) Gretchen Wilson says she is a big fan of McDonald's and tries to eat there once a day when she's on tour. In terms of sales, America's 3 most popular fast-food lunch destinations are McDonald's, Starbucks and Subway. If you could choose a gift card to one of those three, which would you select?  Starbucks please.

6) Gretchen has endorsed Redneck Riviera Whiskey. What's your favorite adult beverage?  I don't have it much but I like a small glass of Moscato, and sometimes, Marsala.

Since this Monday is Labor Day, the holiday established to celebrate the American worker …

7) Approx. 10% of Americans are self employed. Have you ever been your own boss?
Yes, I did custom sewing and alterations for a time, and then sold my crafts at shows around the county.

8) According to Monster.com, 50% of workers have left a job to get away from a boss. Are you one of the 50%? Only once... I had a boss in a Super yarn store who liked to torture her workers, psychologically, and was good at it.  She was a really, deeply disturbed, mean person whom no one liked.  I ended up quitting my job.

9) Farmers feel the impact of extreme weather events. Have you ever had a job that required you to be outdoors most of the time? Yes, but since it was a sort of perennial summer job, in California, it wasn't a problem.  The bad weather of winter never factored into it.

  1. I'm such a savage. I had no idea marsala was a wine! I thought it was a sauce, like alfredo. (You know, chicken marsala ... fettuccine alfredo.) Well, I looked it up. Thanks to you, Mme. Zippi, I've learned something!

  2. You traveled all over the country for shows...I'm wondering, did you ever show at Fort Ligonier Days or the Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival? They are both near me in PA and people come from all over the country to show at them. I have a friend who likes Moscato more than anything. It's not bad! Happy Saturday, Zippi!

  3. It always amazes how bad bosses can turn a perfect job into a nightmare. Sometimes it is hard to recognize it's really the other person. I'm glad you did!

    1. So many of them get OFF on making their underlings miserable. I wish Unions had a lot more clout because I'm sure this MONSTER disease has not been lessened by a NO RECOURSE whatsoever place most workers are in now.

    1. Thanks LA. Oh it was. Also, I was semi bi-lingual and it got around to the head operators that I could talk coins out of poor little drunken Hispanic callers at payphones. Fun fun fun lol

  5. I always wonder how people like in #8 even get those positions, much less keep them. Sorry you went through that, I have been there too. Loved your answers! Have a great day!

    1. I guess it's a little bit of a CEASAR complex that some bosses get. Sorry you got caught up in the rotten boss syndrome (RBS?) Such bosses must have forgetten what it was like, coming up through the ranks. The boss I had was a friend of the owner of the spinnery. Not nice at all.

  6. I worked for a psychiatrist who treated people who had work problems and it amazed me how mean bosses could be. One I remember was the boss who put her desk directly in front of the bathroom so that people had to go to the other side of the building to use the bathroom (and then got berated for taking so long to make a bathroom break)

    1. That's really awful, Bev, and Cruel, and Inexcusable.
This bathroom use thing reminds me the movie, Hidden Figures, and what the Black woman Mathematicians at NASA had to go through to use a rest room because there were no BLACK restrooms in the building they worked in.

I found out later, from a manager at another store in the group that some of the things that the other boss was doing were illegal. But, since she was a friend to the owner, she got away with.
