All I Have to Do Is Dream
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: All I Have to Do Is Dream (1958)
Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.
1) Did you dream last night? Yes, but I don't usually remember my dreams anymore.
2) In this song, The Everly Brothers dream of kissing "lips of wine." Do you prefer red or white wine? I prefer red to be dry, and white if it's sweet.
3) In 1975, Rolling Stone ranked Phil and Don #1 on their list of the greatest duos of all time. Name another musical twosome. The Carpenters are a duo that was, to me, one of the greats.
4) Mike Love has acknowledged the influence The Everly Brothers had on The Beach Boys' harmonies. What's your favorite Beach Boys song? My favorite is hard to pick, because I think everything they did was noteworthy. But since I must pick, I choose, "Wouldn't It Be Nice". Now I shall try to add it to the post.....
If this doesn't work, I will have to fix it later... You Tube and I don't always play well together....
5) The pressure of touring took its toll on the Everly Brothers'
personal relationship, and those stresses spilled onto the stage. They
once had a fight in front their audience that ended with Phil smashing
his guitar and storming off. Have you ever busted something in anger? Since
I HATE cleaning up broken china or glassware, and I haven't EVER been
mad enough to attack any of my stringed instruments, the answer to this
is No.
6) One of Don's friends was author/storyteller
Garrison Keillor and that's how the Everly Brothers came to perform on
Keillor's radio program, A Prairie Home Companion. Do you often listen
to the radio or to podcasts? No, but I used to listen to Casey
Kasem faithfully every week. That is, until I didn't like the music
anymore. I do like to listen to YouTube music videos.
7)
The brothers chose to live in different cities and held opposite views
on politics. Don said, "Everything is different about us, except when we
sing." Do you have siblings? If so, are you more alike or different? I
have a brother and a sister. We are all very different. None of us
live in the same city but my sister is pretty close (seven) miles away.
We keep in touch by phone calls every week, and visit when we can.
8)
In 1958, the year this song was a hit, Americans were doing the Cuban
dance, the cha-cha-cha. Do you ever dance or sing when you're home
alone? I used to dance and sing all the time. But not anymore. I
danced so much that one of my kids drew a picture in Kindergarten, and
when she was asked who it was, she said that's a mother named L dancing.
9) Random question -- Do you believe we each get one true love? If
we are lucky, we do. Sometimes it doesn't work out,and we don't find
that person in time. I've seen it happen and it's sad. But I know I have
lived with, and been in love with, my soul mate since we were young.
Thank you Sam!

Thanks
so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to
come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact
sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses,
you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We
haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of
Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!
I like all my wines sweet. I know that shows I don't have a terribly sophisticated palate, but I like what I like. ((shrugs)) I also listened to Casey Kasem faithfully. I love that one of our local stations replays those old weekly shows every Sunday morning. I can usually catch a little bit of it. What memories it stirs up!
ReplyDeleteI love sweet white, like in Marsala and Sherry. Never worry about wine snobbery, drink what you like... there is a lot of wine snobbery going on out there... heehee
DeleteIt's so great that you can still hear Casey Kasem. His show was a really was an important venue for record companies. Now, with Bandcamp and other digital sites, recordings can be bought with little fuss on line. I like Bandcamp because one of my favorite singer/songwriters is on it. Luke Brindley. Shameless promotion on my part. He's great. A modern troubadour. Sorry for the "essay" lol
I use to listen to Casey Kasem too. I loved the Carpeters!
ReplyDeleteSo many Casey Kasem peeps! YAY! for an icon!
DeleteI think that Karen Carpenter had one of the must beautiful Contralto voices in the world.
The Beach Boys clip played perfectly!
ReplyDeleteYour answer to #9 made me go, "aw..."
Thanks for the tip off. I'm starting to get better at the NEW Blogspot, the one left after Google cut them back loose.
DeleteAwww.. thanks, Gal..
I chose the same Beach Boys song.
ReplyDeleteAha! That "Great Minds" thing... hehe It has a really beautiful ballad-style swing to it.
DeleteI used to tape Casey Kasem once a month, more than that and the songs repeated too much, but I had cassette after cassette of his shows. I wonder what happened to them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to do that. Well, if you taped them it was probably 9mm and those players went south a long long time ago. They had the BEST sound.
DeleteCasey Kasem, I used to listen to him all the time
ReplyDeleteIt's been fun to see how many people did listen to Casey Kasem. That period of his show was a great time for music lovers, that's for certain.
DeleteI love The Beach Boys and I was just talking about Casey Kasem last night with my son. Casey Kasem was so great to listen to. I think they still play replays of AT40 with Casey Kasem on some radio stations. Every so often I hear his velvety voice on the radio. Loved your answers. Have a nice weekend.

Thanks Lori. I'll have to look for any online recordings that may have been digitized. He was an Icon for an age, so he was.
DeleteWow, haven't thought about Casey Kasem in years. Great show, that.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly was! I can still hear his voice in my head, announcing songs or commenting.
Delete#3 So sad how Karen Carpenter died, I have all of their records on vinyl.
ReplyDelete#6 I used to listen to Casey Kasem driving up to college in Rochester NY.
Casey Kasem certainly was a central figure for a lot of us growing up in those years.
DeleteI have a couple of vinyl records of the Carpenters.
And yes, it was truly a shame that she couldn't be helped.
It's pretty much before anorexia was recognized for what it was, a distorted self image that people seemingly can't be talked out of.
