The Last Song (1972)

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers
is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: The Last Song (1972)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here

This is the last Saturday 9 song of 2022. Thanks for another great year.

1) In this song, the lead singer admits he leaves the light on when he goes to sleep. Do you leave any lights on in your bedroom? Or do you prefer it completely dark? I have a little night lite candle by my slippers so that I can see them at night.  But it's tiny and doesn't cast any light in the room.  Also, we have security lights front and back, and so do all the neighbors.  But I sleep just fine. If anything keeps me awake it's the boogie man. lol

2) He sings that he can't stop wondering where his old girlfriend is. Do you know whatever happened to any of your exes?  Hmmm.. I guess I'm really lucky because I have no exes.  One less thing to obsess about! lol

3) He says this is the last song he'll ever sing to his girl. What's the last song you sang? Where were you when you sang it? "I'll Never Fall in Love Again".  I was dusting if memory serves.  I just like the song.  I like the irony of it.

4) Edward Bear was a Canadian group who took their name from Winnie the Pooh. As written by A. A. Milne, Edward Bear was Pooh's "proper" name. Pooh's favorite food was honey. Is there a food you can't get enough of?
Yes, it's Ice Cream!  If I ate all that I wanted of it, I'd already be writing this in Hell.

5) In 1972, when this song was popular, Disney's Winnie the Pooh was quite a celebrity in his own right, appearing on the cover the 1972 Sears Christmas Wish Book. That year, kids asked Santa for plush Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore. Did you have many plush toys as a child? If yes, do you still have any of them?  I don't think there were any, but I had a Kewpie Doll.  I loved that little thing.  My brother, a few years younger, got a teddy bear.  I was pretty jealous.  There were not many toys around during World War II, but Kewpie dolls were.  I adored that little girl doll.  I never got to even see a Shirley Temple doll so I wasn't jealous of that one.

6) Enough about 1972! Let's look back on 2022. What's something you learned or rediscovered in 2022?  I really can't think of a thing.  I mean NOTHING.

7) Can you think of a moment in 2022 you'd like to do over? Nope.  Just living through it once was enough for me.

8) What are you looking forward to most in 2023? I just turned 80, and I am happy to be able to read my books, bounce around the internet for Memes, and take the time to love my family, and love (and care about) every other struggling Sentient Being on the Earth.  I look forward to just being able to keep on doing that.  Well, there IS theTurnip Head, and Poo tintintin... I care little for them.....  I try to, but it's SO not working.

9) Random question: Who received the last email you sent? My friend in Turkey.  She and I trade a note now and again.   I miss Suzie though... and so many others of my on-line friends.  Covid has taken a toll. And now-a-days, you never know who is listening in......🕵

Thanks so much Sam!

  1. Awww, Kewpie dolls are so cute. We have some kind of Kewpie doll museum here close to where I live. My son has been, but I haven't. I should go. Loved your answers! Have a very Happy New Year! ♥

  4. Burt Bachrach and Hal David wrote so many terrific songs. "Alfie" is one of my favorites, too.

I like the idea of riding endless dishes of ice cream straight to hell. What a way to go! :)

  5. Belated Happy Birthday. I remember when Troll dolls were popular in the 60's. I love ice cream, but don't eat it often because I am pre diabetic. One of my boy crushes lived in San Jose. I danced with him at his wedding, and he said he thought of me as a sister. I am not surprised because we grew up together. These questions always take me down memory lane. Happy New Year!
