Girls, you never got to swing in the hammock between the trees, but it was so peaceful and cool there during the hot part of the day. B, that is your sculpture. The one that spins with the wind. I put it in the garden and the jays love to stand on the very sharpest tip and do their surveillance. We still feed them peanuts from time to time.

hi zippianna,
ReplyDeletethe mazurka seems to be able to spin a range with just those four ratios. i've only been needing to use the larger whorl = two smaller ratio (6 and 8), usually 8. the fingering alpaca was even spun on 8. i think this wheel will suffice my needs and i really do not need a second one unless i actually get to play with another and fall headlessly in love...
on higher ratio, it might get harder to treadle. at this point, i'm not sure if it is because of the small wheel diameter, the single treadle or my tensioning.
i have no problem with this wheel for the price i paid($250). i love the detail and the classic look. it is a classic beauty (if i may say of kromski wheels), a work of art by itself. but i'm sure that if i get to try other wheels, they may prove to be more stable/substantial?
it travels well, light to carry. i usually let it lay down on the back seat. but guess wun be easy to fly with.
the one time i brought it to a spinning meetup another lady treadled on it and the mazurka scooted away from her, on hardwood floor, although another lady and i didn't have the scooting problem, so i think it's how the person treadle.
although it doesn't have a high speed capabilities, i dun find it to be neccessary at this point. although i had wanted a jumbo plyer function, i also came to realise that it is not neccessary coz the 4 oz bobbin holds just the right amount of yarn before there's too much yardage for the ball winder....
i'm wanting to try the hitchiker for more portability. it has a 7:1 and 9:1 ratio, i think. sufficient for my purposes....
Thanks Pugknits for your post about your Kromski wheel. I've been thinking that their double treadle is still in the running if I can spin a range of weights on it. I would like from ww to lace, but it might be asking too much of smaller wheels. There is so much to learn before I buy, too. Your post as helped me to know where to start looking. I do think that the beauty of them is worth extra. It does have to travel but it won't be flying. Well not in an airplane, and I actually take things easy now so it doesn't have to be a production wheel or anything. Going top speed is not my thing now. hehe
