Cindy Sheehan wrote, and I quote:
"Everyone in this country who has not tried to shut down a recruiting station or has not gone down to sit in at their Congress-coward's office to demand an end to the war or who has not attended a march, written hundreds of letters, come to Crawford, or otherwise stepped out of their comfort zones to repudiate the Bush regime and call for indictment of the same need to be abjectly ashamed of themselves.
If the darling Grannies - who should be able to be home baking brownies if they want to, or running marathons, or reading books, or painting portraits, or shopping, or doing whatever else makes them happy - put their bodies on the line for peace, so your child won't have to go off to a war based on lies to die and kill innocent people, why can't you?"
And this from the same article:
"The Raging Grannies and we Raging Americans are willing to go to jail to protect you and your rights and your children's lives. Who wants to live free in a society that has total disregard for human rights, humanity, and practices cruelty that would be worthy of the Inquisition? Who wants to live free in a society that arrests and tries Grannies and ordinary citizens who are only exercising the rights that we are all born with? The rights for which my son and so many others had their lives robbed from them."
Quote from Cindy Sheehan's Article on April 21st, 2006, found here.
Seven Days later, the New York Raging Grannies were Aquitted, Yay!
We might just have some civil rights left folks!
After all, that is the democracy we all are sworn to defend as naturalized citizens, and expected to defend as natural born citizens. Raging Grannies, and Code Pink, and you! All making it work again!
She spoke of my Rage Against Complacency. I live in an upscale area (not my idea) in a red state. I look around and what do I see? Grocery store parking lots that look like a SUV, Hummer dealership. Kids tooling around in their new car for their 16th birthday and talking on the cell..hanging out in the malls. No one cut their own grass, no one recycles, nannies, busy-busy consuming and showing off. They feel safer because we torture, kill hundred of thousands of "them" and thousands of ours. This is my rage...complacency because these people have no rage. They have their toys, their anti-depresants, their image, while we torture, have free speach zones, the Patriot Act, NSA listening and reading and entering at will. Oh, and I forgot to mention...reducing the FDA inspection labs by 50% because it takes to long and at the sametime we are importing more and more food which is inspected by less than 1%. (which, apparently, is by design in free trade agreements...)
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting that. I have started a day with renewed vigor.
Meribeth, you're welcome. I share your concerns about the FDA cut backs as well.
ReplyDelete$4,000,000,000 (billion) for recruitment of American children for the war, but cut every domestic program to the bone? Bad Thinking.
