Churchy, the daddy, has already wandered off but mother and son are just waking up. It was 10 am and the sun was finally out.
The torts don't know it but today is probably the last day they will spend outside. Usually they scuffle around underneath the chest of drawers for a few days before settling down to sleep for five months. One year it was very rainy, and I had to go pull Daddy out of a deep hole he'd dug under the raised bed. He was covered with mud from head to heel, and I was pretty mucky from the mud, too. I didn't want him to drown in his sleep.
Tortoises are interesting pets. I think of birds when looking into their eyes. They seem very deeply wise in some mysterious way.
I too always think that turtles are wise!
ReplyDeleteReptiles are genetic ancestors to birds, so it's not surprising you see a bit of bird in the turtles' eyes.
ReplyDeleteI haven't sen the econ book yet, but promise to get my act together soon. :-)
Cynthia, Hi and thanks for stopping by. Torts are a lot wiser than we are, and a lot older, too. Millions of years in their resumes. :)
ReplyDeleteSarah- Hope. Don't you worry bout a thing. I'm glad to have it just whenever you get a chance... And yes, torts are in the bird line. I often wonder if they see colors, too.
