Yes, it's almost time again to pop the cork on some Champagne. England maybe the closest to the year's turning now... Russia may have already experienced 2008.
As the Earth turns towards the new year, we can all HOPE for a better year, and as you know(because Emily said so):
"Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me."
Let's all keep hoping that Year 2008 will be, instead of an Human Infant who always seems to fail, a sweet little Blue Bird of Happiness.
I think we'll have to tie some folks down and tickle their toes with one of the bird's feathers to get them to confess their sins. Perhaps this should be a Peking Duck feather instead? (Chinese Duck feather torture?) Let's do this! Let's also make them promise to end the suffering they've caused or we will take ALL THEIR MONEY AWAY! I so love appropriate revenge.
Happy New Year,zippi !!!

Bluebirds!
ReplyDeleteI was in North Dakota, in Roosevelt National Park, in a warm November, and everything was a dead grass tan. I was walking from one tourist thing to another, when this flash of the most beautiful blue dropped to the ground, singing the way angels in heaven must sound. It then picked up a dessicated, flattened worm and flitted up to the branch of a pine, where it happily ate the worm, chuckling and chortling in the most beautiful language earth has ever heard.
So, yes, hope should have feathers, like a bit of a clear blue sky.
Happy New Year to you, too, Pina! With any luck at all, we will overcome 2007 and snatch this year back as a place for Peace and the people of Good Will. Ya!
ReplyDeleteSallyjo, thank you for the stunning and beautiful word picture of the blue bird from your memories.
Birds are the best reminders of the concept of Freedom from Earthly Bonds. Vaughan Williams', "The Lark Ascending", always reminds me how special birds are. They are very inspirational creatures for art.
Happy New Year! To me, New Years Eve is the time we start shifting to spring. The holiday season is done, time to look forward to rebirth. We have to look forward, don't we?
ReplyDeleteSallyjo, that was lovely. Thanks for sharing. It reminded me of the time when I was upset and angry about my job. Middle of winter, a big flock of Ceder Waxwings suddenly appeared at our bird bath. And with them were some blue Birds. My mother, who was listening to my rant, said "That is God talking to you."
My wish for the greedy and selfish is to have them wake up on morning with a conscience and feel the shame when they think of their own actions, and have to live with it.
Thank you Meribeth! We absolutely have to look forward. We've been counting the days in KR, haven't we?!!
ReplyDeleteCedar Waxwings used to come into our yard when the big elm trees were still in the side yard. The flock would come down and drink out of clean trashcan lid we used for a little watering station. Beautiful birds they almost look hand painted don't they?
And I hope that you get your new year's wish. :)
