This kitchen was basically thrashed when we bought the house 14 years later. A bacon eating (heavy on the bacon) man had lived here for a good many years, and had really messed this place up. We scrubbed it all down as best we could.
It was the hottest July on record, and I was "with child" and supposed to be off my feet a lot. "Child" turned out to be twins, and anyone who has been blessed with two tiny bundles of joy at the same time can appreciate that the condition of the kitchen was shoved to the rear of the bus, abruptly. We had to figure out how we were going to fit such a hugely expanded family into 1000 square feet. Affording a kitchen remodel was not on our minds, but getting living space was! We had settled on this house because it had three bedrooms, and the baby, singular, could have the small 9 ft square bedroom off the kitchen. Hah! The saying about Mice and Men rang through my sleep deprived brain for a full three years.
DH and the Big Sisters, along with the Mother's of Twins Club saved my sanity. None of them gifted me with a money tree, however. Kitchen stayed as it was, seriously maimed.

Twins! They are tough, but a joy, at the best of times. Glad you had the support! I don't know how you kept your mind even with the support.
ReplyDeleteThe tile on your floor? Looks like mine..seriously.
Thinking about you and the *experience* of remodeling. Good luck!
Meribeth
Oh yes, Meribeth, definitely a joy and, though I never dreamed I'd have four daughters, they are such a blessing. For a couple of months though, I looked a little like a raccoon, with the darkest circles around my eyes I'd ever seen on any living person. lol
ReplyDeleteI love that tile on the floor. I just need to scrub it more but the grout is dark for a reason. I don't have to bleach it! So you have tile, too? It's unforgiving when you drop something, but the old floor was pretty much, too. Slab foundations are not softened up much by vinyl floorings.
