What the Hell is going wrong with our country???
This is developing news. Amy Goodman, well known journalist for Democracy!Now, has been detained near the Republican Convention for "suspicion of inciting to riot". This is the same charge that has been being used against others who are peacefully demonstrating, or who had opening their houses to peace groups around the area.

Hmmmm, in the UK as well the police sometimes get confused about free speech and policing. We went to Gleneagles to protest at the G8 summit a few years ago and I was overwhelmed by the riot police/dogs/horses....as well as reinforcements flying in on huge Chinook helicopters.
ReplyDeleteAll this in the middle of a teeny Scottish village whose occupants were in the main, really welcoming to the protesters, waving, offering cups of tea and the use of their toilets :)
Protesting the G8 summit? Wow, they really thought you were all going to "storm the citadel" and paint the ministers blue or something?
ReplyDeleteWell, then the mania is not just this side of the pond. And I wonder about where all the extra money came from for the helicopters and the rest of the "nine yards". Why the profligate use of it on just about anything that has to do with power mongers and brigands in three piece suits? 'Tis an enigma, wrapped in a riddle, shrouded in mystery...
