I think this is of fundamental importance.
So, first, both of these are from Huffington Post Blog:
Oprah's Experience
And, to make sure this doesn't happen again in any other election, please read THIS from Brad Friedman.
Since I live in California, I will tell you my own experience with these machines. Two presidential elections ago, I did not want to vote using a touch screen, but was NOT informed that I could ask for a paper ballot instead. This happened even though I voiced the opinion that I didn't want to vote on the machine.
There is a provision for voters like myself. We can ask for a paper ballot if we want one. I wasn't told about this until after I'd voted. I also had a problem with my first touch screen vote for president being recorded. I had to go back and do it again.
I've never, ever liked these machines since that time. Before then, I voted happily on them for a test in a primary election. Now I just do NOT trust them at all.
So, be aware, it's not just a first time voter who can be affected. It can happen to you as well. Keep your eyes open.
PS. I now vote early. For me, less stress, and less worry. I won't go so far as to say I think it's criminal, what has happened, but maybe I'll think of another word that fits this farce.
