Blue Agate on the Roadway
Many times we would just stop and have a good look at the roadway if it was cut through a promising place. Blue agate is now all over the market but for a long time it was quite rare.
Some collectors, who were really not rockhounds but mining companies, would swoop in and dig out all of a BLM dig area, and the authorities couldn't keep up with them. Some areas are for public collection and not for blasting and bulldozers. It would really get the clubs upset because the big equipment would also tear up the roads in as well. Huge tracts were let by BLM and there are claims all over in Utah but not in this area of Arizona.
This trip turned into a disappointment when we got to the site and the bulldozers had been in there already in the early winter.
