United Breaks Guitars

Since we just went to see an acoustic guitar genius playing on stage, well two actually, this snappy little tune is a joy of toe tapping slaps at anyone who would DARE to mistreat, or not mourn the demise of, anything as wonderful as a Taylor Guitar.

The songs last night were mostly love songs, and I have been missing the guitar used as an instrument of protest. Well, this little ditty popped up just in time to save my faith that such songs still are being written from time to time. Here's it is:

Thanks to Lisa and the SG. Whoot!

  1. Amazing how the airlines make it so difficult for musicians. This is an ongoing problem - I'm glad this guy wrote and publicized his song.

  2. You betcha, Knittinreed. I am, too!

This has been some bad publicity for United. 2,798,975 views so far. hehe

How dare they treat instruments like something less than special. Really it shows a lack of caring for precious items. I wonder how they treat little animals that are shipped? I wonder what their record for THAT is??

  3. Mr Luann's Baby Taylor (travel guitar) was broken while flying United when someone (with the help of a flight attendant) crammed their big bag in on top of it in the overhead bin. We got no satisfaction from them either. It's been reglued and now belongs to Baby Luann. Since then, Mr L only travels with hardcases, and always carries them on. Once in a while they make him gate-check, but rarely, and occasionally they get to ride in the First Class closet while we are back in Coach! Great link.

  4. First class all the way for musical instruments! hehe..

Thanks TGL for telling your own little horror story, and though I have none of own, I certainly hear enough of them. Harps, Cellos and Bass Viols are very hard to get shipped properly unless the they go on special flights or in a crate. Anything smaller than a guitar, I think I'd carry on and put under the seat in a hard case, or maybe wrap like a baby and carry on and hold it. Wah! Just stick a pacifer in a hinge. hehe

  5. There are lots of problems with the size restrictions - like for violins, viola, bassoons... I'm glad my oboe fits in the cabin easily.

  6. So true, Knittinreed.

I've heard of people buying the seat next to them for the instrument some of which are very valuable - priceless, actually, some of them.

Speaking of valuable, the way things are now, I really doubt whether the Bulgari jewelry goes in luggage in the belly like it used to. Can you imagine? Me, either, but it did in the 70s.
