Dante Bucci... hang drum music video.

I find the Hang Drum spell binding even if it is just played by itself.

I have this young musician's albums.

Enjoy!

  1. I wanted to get one of the Hang Drums for DH for Christmas. Sadly, they are scarce and expensive and I think involve a trip to Europe and an interview with the makers. Thanks for the post.

  2. Hi Lella;

I'm glad you found my blog. You have a nice blog here.

I've never seen drums like that before. I thought I was going to hear sounds like banging on a trash can when I clicked in the video, but much to my surprise those drums make a beautiful sound, and the man playing them is very talented.

I'm on Ravelry too. My name is CrazyOldeShrew on Ravelry, but my real name is Pam.

  3. You're welcome, and I'm sorry you couldn't find one. Hang are gorgeous new instruments and the world can't get enough of them.

They are completely hand made, very scarce, and practically tuned to the person they are made for. Last year someone remarked that they were shocked that Dante had two of them because there just weren't any available where they were - in Jamaica, I think.

My daughter likes to play African drums, and she also likes these. She doesn't have a Hang though, lol

  4. Hi Pam,

Both messages made it through but were delayed for some reason. I posted your longer one.

You have a lovely blog, and I'm glad you found my blog, too. Hopefully there will be more knitting this coming year for you to see. That was why this was started but it sort of wandered in to hot water. Now I just want to do more knitting again and share pretty flowers.

The Hang is a very unusual new instrument, and I had the same reaction to it that you did when first I saw it. But the Jamaican steel drum bands gave me a clue as to what the sound would be like. Have you seen the things called Hydrophones? They are new instruments too, and have an amazing sound - really surprising, lovely and harmonic.

  5. Simply beautiful. And very talented. I too have been trying to find one of these for sale, but unfortunately, with little luck. :(

I did find this though: http://www.hangdrumsandhandpans.com/2010/10/alternatives-to-hang-drum-for-sale-halo.html which may also be of interest to garilynn. As these are very similar.

  6. Wow that Bali Hang is wonderful! I want one of these but I wonder how much it is. I'll find one somehow.

The Caisa sounds like a steel drum used in Trinidad, only hit with the hands, in fact I bet it's just an upside down version.

the Hapi sounds dull or too much reverb. Maybe the mike is just a little too close.

Lovely link, and thank you DugDug.
