I've been going through things, still searching for my missing tools, missing yarn, (found it!) and a few other things. I found a shoe box full of photos that had been in my mother's things.
I didn't think a picture existed of my Rough Coated Tricolor Collie, Shadow. But one showed up, as a tiny fragment of a larger picture that my mother saved for me in her photos. She must have known I would want it.
The Paternal Unit, aka Psycho Dad, was a brutal man. Shadow was the love of my life, so I'm glad that Psycho Dad, at least sold him to a good man and his family and just didn't kill him. I reckon it was because this dog would bring in a few dollars. Shadow was purebred, big, and beautiful, and I bought him with my own money. It was good to know that Shad would be beyond the grasp of brutality.
I got to see Shadow, and his smiling new family who were very gentle with me, one last time. I'd gone on a visit to my mother's home a few days after the Psycho-freak had stormed out on a week long binge, and told my family to get everything of mine out of the house. I was happy that Shadow was going to have a new home with children in it.
My transgression? I had gone to a neighbor's party, and stayed a little too long. I was 19 and had met the man of my dreams. That wonderful young man became my hubby later in the year. And, my beautiful Shadow didn't have to pay for it with his life.
Bits of this and that:
Sunday, I found the Manly/Beastly sweater yarn. Maybe I'll find the tools soon, too. And yes, the yarn was in a place I looked before, but as I say, my eyes are going bad. I better really hurry up and get things done.
I also found a picture of Bully, my White Leghorn Rooster which I'll post soon.
As you can see, I've entered my blue period.

| Shadow was my trekking buddy. We went on long walks in the Mountains and across the valleys of the foothills. I will never ever forget this wonderful Friend. |

ah, Shadow...sweet sweet dog and glimpse into your deep feelings. Blue is ok...as long as you don't stay too long ;) Love, Paula
ReplyDeleteThanks so much PJ. He was an awesome dog, but boy did he get car sick, poor Lad. about black (blue) holes: I usually climb back out quicker these days. That, even though I am pretty decrepit at this age, lol!
